Due to her significant fearfulness, she has not acclimated well in care. Cola has shown to be highly reluctant to leave her kennel, displaying a tense frame and pressing her face into her bedding when leashing attempts are made. When out of kennel, Cola displays a tucked tail, tense trembling frame, and will plant by the exit. During her medical exam, she presented as shut down, cowering and attempting to flee; she also head whipped and had a tense face, with a possible lip curl, when attempting to handle her. She has engaged with a licky mat for a brief period. Cola is diagnosed with hematochezia, otitis chronic, and otitis externa. Cola was surrendered as a stray so we have no history on his behavior in a home environment. Lola has shown fearful behavior while at the care center, and has been highly reluctant to leave her kennel, retreating and flattening her body to avoid leashing. During medical examination, she was tense and cowering, avoidant of handling and seeking exit. Due to her fearfulness, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
