Requirements OLDER CHILDREN 12+ Recommendations GO SLOW FAMILY INTRODUCTION Memo 10/14/2026 10/14/26 14:11 Geriatric dog with multiple medical issues. If no outlet is found by 10/21/26, dog will be at risk for humane euthansia on 10/22/26. Dog may be humanely euthanized earlier if QOL declines. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 10/11/2026 Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Not interested in treats, Easy/Loose Leash, Calm, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Mrs. Cleats greeted me with some buffs then was happy to exit her kennel. In the yard, she spent much of her time exploring but came to me each time I called for her. She benefited from calm, polite interactions. 10/8/2026 Dog was lying down in kennel while trembling body. Opened kennel door & spoke softly to dog while placing leash. Slowly stood up & walked out of kennel with verbal coaxing. Would stop to sniff along walkway to small PY. Would stay next to handler for a few minutes while panting, looking around surroundings. Allowed petting on side of body without issues. Would shift head to side when being pet on head but would tolerate petting. Explored PY while sniffing nose to ground. Not interested in treats or toys. Would approach handler on own & when called over. Would start to pant heavy while having mouth wide open, leaning into handler while being pet on side of body. Picked up leash & walked back to kennel slowly while sniffing nose to ground. Would not enter into kennel on own, handler would fully step into kennel for dog to follow. Allowed leash removal to be done by hand without issues. *Based on intake & previous evaluation, placing OLDER CHILDREN 12+ as a REQUIREMENT. **Interested parties should be made aware of all medical notes. *Interested parties should be counseled on providing this dog with proper decompression time in a new home.  Allowing time to adjust is important for their comfort and well-being.  Adopters should be counseled on proper dog-to-dog introductions, which should only occur after the dog has fully decompressed. 10/7/2026 At front of kennel with tense body, stoic, stopped eating with some hard stares towards handler, lowered head and quick low growl, settled when leash was presented. Easy leash placement at front of kennel, exited with easy/slow leash pull behind handler all the way to small play yard, startled by reactive dogs in passing, tail tucked, wide eyed, some stop n go to sniff. In yard dog skin crawled when brushing leash on back, would spend most of evaluation sniffing intensely around yard with tail tucked and tense body, slowly explored around yard, would tolerate petting on back when near handler but did not solicit attentions, no interest in treats offered or tossed near. Distant from handler for majority of evaluation, no interest in dogs/staff walking passed yard, continued to sniff intensely until end of evaluation dog approached handler with tucked slow wagging tail, heavy wide mouth panting, wide eyed, lowered head and accepted pets on head, would sit next to handler panting and scanning environment, little eye contact with handler. Slowly followed handler to exit, slow and easy leash pull behind handler back to kennel, walked into kennel on own, able to slowly remove leash by hand with no issues. 10/4/2026 Requesting full evaluation based on field/activity notes. 10/3/2026 Came up to K9 barking and snarling. K9 stood its ground and hard stare as ACO got close to K9. K9 continue to growled and bark. Did not allow easy leash placement; jumped and thrashed when leash was place and was able to slip out. Attempted to leash K9 again and K9 thrashed slightly on the leash. Did not want to walk to truck, so ACO used light leash pressure to motivate K9 to walk. Allowed petting on body and allowed to be pick up, with no restraint, and place into truck kennel. Growled at ACO when opening truck kennel. Growled when checking for a microchip 10/3/2026 Walked onto ramp on leash, soft body, wagging tail, tolerated vaccines with light restraint, walked to kennel on leash Medical Treatments 10/15/2026 10/15/26 09:18 Brief exam due to contagious respiratory disease in the shelter.
