Smokey
Siberian Husky
Urgent: 2 Days Left
Scheduled: October 21, 2026
Reason: Medical
Smokey is an adoptable male Siberian Husky looking for a home at Dallas Animal Services in Dallas, Texas. He is senior and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to medical. Adopting Smokey, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Smokey is a male dog who presented bright, alert, and responsive (BAR) with probable severe glaucoma in the right eye (OD), a painful condition that can significantly impact his comfort and quality of life. Due to behavioral concerns, further diagnostics and treatment have been unable to be performed. Without appropriate evaluation and intervention, Smokey is at risk for ongoing pain, worsening ocular damage, and additional complications. Prompt veterinary assessment and treatment are recommended to address his condition and relieve potential discomfort. The specialized veterinary care and handling support needed to safely evaluate and manage Smokey's condition exceed what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite his medical concerns, Smokey requires a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive further veterinary evaluation, appropriate treatment for his suspected glaucoma, and ongoing care to support his comfort and quality of life. An experienced adopter, foster, or rescue able to work with his behavioral needs and facilitate veterinary care is needed. Smokey is at risk for euthanasia due to medical concerns beyond our scope of care. If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or rescuing Smokey, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov. When emailing, please include a callback number. He's a treat‑motivated guy who prefers to keep his distance from new people until he feels safe. With someone he trusts, he's far less likely to act out and can settle comfortably. He's a senior who just needs patience, understanding, and a calm environment to help him feel secure. He deserves a chance to find the person who will let him open up at his own pace.
