Additional Info : Dak is a sweet, smart boy who is having a difficult time with the stress of shelter life. He is quiet in his kennel with familiar interactions and is easy to leash and handle once out. In the play yard, Dak enjoys engaging with his person and shows off that he knows both sit and down. He takes his food gently as a reward, as Dak has several food allergies and requires a special diet. When unfamiliar people approach, Dak can be unsure and may initially back away, bark, or watch them closely. With a little time and space, he has shown that he can settle, redirect back to his handler, and even reapproach for attention. Having been surrendered by the same owners more than once, Dak is once again adjusting to a major change, and his stress has become more noticeable with prolonged time in the shelter. Dak is dog selective in the shelter environment and has done best with calm female dogs. He currently participates in group play with two calm females but can become overstimulated around other dogs. While his uncertainty and stress are important pieces of his story, there is also a smart, engaging boy underneath it all who responds well to his person and seems to benefit greatly from calm, patient interactions.
