Linguini is a neutered male small-breed senior dog who was found alone on the streets of Southwest Philadelphia and was transported to ACCT Philly by a police officer. It was immediately apparent that Linguini needed some TLC for his severely matted, dirty coat and a flea infestation; however, a veterinary exam found more extensive medical needs including periodontal disease, chronic KCS or 'dry eye syndrome' in both eyes, and osteoarthritis of the hindlimbs. Bloodwork also revealed mild ALT elevation as well as hyperglobulinemia. While Linguini will require urgent veterinary care for his current health needs, he hasn't let his medical conditions get him down yet. Linguini was described as a sweet and tolerant pup during his examinations; he was also noted to be calm and easygoing during his meet with another small dog at the shelter. As Linguini's medical needs exceed the shelter's capacity for treatment and ongoing care, he urgently needs a safe exit from the shelter with an approved rescue partner. VIDEOS Linguini's dog meet with Pepsi: MEDICAL INFORMATION Per vet exam 10/19: 'SUBJECTIVE - Senior matted dog found on highway by police. OBJECTIVE - Eyes - corneal pigmentation and neovascularization OU, crusted mucoid discharge (worse OS). Ears WNL. Mouth - MM pink, moderate calculus and gingivitis. Skin - diffusely matted and dirty haircoat, overgrown nails. Underlying skin is mildly erythematous, small papillomatous cutaneous mass on thorax. Fleas noted. LN WNL. Heart, lungs auscultate WNL. Abdomen - tense, unable to adequately palpate. Stiff hindlimb gait. Crepitus and degenerative changes noted on palpation of stifles. Neutered male w/ tattoo. Sweet and tolerant guy. ASSESSMENT - Chronic KCS OU. Periodontal disease. Hindlimb osteoarthritis. Dirty severely matted haircoat- RESOLVED. Mild ALT elevation. Hyperglobulinemia. PLAN - Full body shave performed under sedation. In house Chem10: ALT 172 U/L, globulin 4.7 g/dl. STT: 5 mm/min OD, 2 mm/min OS. Fluorescein stain OU: negative. Ofloxacin OU BID x 7 days; Optimmune OU BID x 7 days. Changing status to rescue only w/ urgent promotion for expedited exit within the next 72 hours.' On 10/18, Linguini was noted to weigh 11.7 pounds. BEHAVIORAL INFORMATION 10/19 dog meet notes: 'Met Pepsi, was not aware of his presence for a while but eventually sniffed his face, his tail nub wiggled a bit, then they both disengaged.'
