Ghost

Ghost is an adoptable male Rat Terrier looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is a young adult and small in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to lack of space, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Ghost may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

Meet Ghost ID #A2099849 2-year-old neutered male Chihuahua Shorthair/Staffordshire Mix | White/Black Weight: 16 lbs Intake Date: 10/5/2026 ⸻ 🩺 Medical Notes: * Heartworm NEGATIVE. * Evaluated October 14 for reported paw chewing. No redness, irritation, or chewing was observed, and no treatment was needed. * Diarrhea was noted October 19. * Otherwise documented as medically normal. * Received routine vaccinations, deworming, and parasite prevention. ⸻ Behavior Notes: Ghost is an energetic, excitable little guy who has shown both friendly greetings and significant kennel stress. On calmer days, he greets staff with a loose, wiggly body, wagging tail, and soft expression. He has walked nicely on a loose leash, accepted treats, and responded to treat-based redirection. Unfortunately, the noisy shelter environment appears especially difficult for him. Ghost jumps against his kennel door, barks, and becomes aroused when other dogs pass. On October 9, staff reported that Ghost was difficult to catch in the outdoor runs. More recently, he has continued high-pitched barking, jumping, and digging at the kennel divider despite extra walks and attempts to reduce stimulation.
