Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 10/19/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel on approach. Would pace near kennel divider wall while having tail slightly tucked under body, whale eyed, ears pinned back & licking lips. Able to lean into kennel with a large loop leash. Walked to small PY while keeping body lowered & pulling hard on leash, would be startled & wary of surroundings, stopping to lay down then quickly stand up while still keeping body lowered & walking fast. Once in PY, dog would pace along fence line while keeping body & head lowered, tail slightly tucked under body, ears pinned back & licking lips with whale eyes. While pacing dog would keep stopping to look up towards top of fence then return to pacing faster. Handler would sit in chair, able to verbally coax dog forward as dog would air scent & keep an arms length distance. Handler would toss treats nearby, was not interested in treats. Would squeak a toy squeaker, dog would briefly perk ears to be relaxed & tilt head side to side while standing in a neutral position. Dog would hear nearby dogs barking & would return to lowering body, pacing along fence line while making a crying sound & pinning ears back. Handler would step onto leash to retrieve in hand. Walked back to kennel while keeping body lowered with a hard pull on leash with ears pinned back & tail fully tucked under body. Entered into kennel without issues. Able to verbally coax forward & remove leash by hand without issues. 10/19/2026 K9 laying on outisde portion of kennel, able to verbally coax k9 inside; closed guiolltine. Handler was able to leash k9 after multiplle attempts. Once leash was secured k9 slowly exited out of kennel. Handler was able to bring k9 outside of kennel building, k9 allowed minimal petting and handling. When handler attempted to pet near belly k9 hackles began to rise and k9 attempted to flee from handler. K9 did not handler to pet after. Able to walk k9 back to kennel and slowly remove leash by hand. 10/18/2026 Pacing in and out of divider as handler approached, tail tucked, head lowered, came forward to sniff treat offered but did not eat treat or show interest when treat was tossed into kennel, did not settle from pacing until divider was closed. Furrowed brow, tense bodied, head lowered when sitting on bed, when opening kennel door and presented leash dog had subtle tucked tail wag but very wary of leash placement, head shy and dodged leashing attempts while backing into corner of kennel with some trembling body, would allow handler to slowly approach and place large loop leash over head. Exited kennel with some pulling, turns to look at handler throughout walk, some hard stares, startled by reactive dogs in passing, will walk closely to handler but flinches and clenches jaw tight when bumping into handler. In yard dog was wary of handler placing leash stopper, skin crawled with some head flip when brushing leash onto back, attached extended leash and dog would begin pacing around yard with tail tightly tucked, no interest in treats offered or tossed near throughout evaluation. Dog would approach handler if handler walked around yard, has some tucked tail wag and sits in front of handler as handler stood in place but tenses/stiffens up body when extending hand out to pet, hard stares, did not attempt to pet at first but would start to tolerate quick pets on head after a few moments of walking around near handler, lowers head and continued to follow handler if handler walked around yard, if handler sat back down on chair dog would pace around yard without settling distant from handler. Some interest in dog walked outside of yard, ran to fence line to sniff but disengaged attention quickly. Wary of environment. Hesitant to approach handler when called over to leave, wary of handler reaching for leash, seemed to settle with baby talk but side eyeing, flinching, and pacing away from handler while recovering leash and removing extended leash, whale eye and tense bodied when applying clip leash but able to distract enough to place leash without issues. Walked alongside handler all the way to kennel, easily startled and some turning to look at handler but maintained easy leash pull. Walked into kennel on own, used clip leash for leash retrieval. 10/15/2026 Walked onto ramp on leash, stiff body, skin crawling, tail tucked, lip licking. Escaped muzzle wrap, avoided officer, had to switch to catch pole Tolerated vaccines with catch pole restraint, side eye, walked to kennel on catch pole Name: Charlotte Animal ID: A5173166 Breed: BLACK/BROWN ROTTWEILER Sex: Female Age: 5Y 0M Weight: 71.4 lbs Kennel: West Kennel, Wing G - 228 Intake Date: 10/15/2026 Deadline Date: 10/26/2026
