A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He entered the play yard with a light body tremble and concerned eyes. The runner spent a few moments reassuring him and he relaxed with soft eyes, allowing the collar to be clasped around his neck without issue. He was wary of any quick movement made by the runner and would flinch, looking up at him. He resumed trembling as he approached the play yard fence to greet a few dogs in the yard. He calmly entered the yard, hugging the perimeter fence as he explored. He showed no interest in engaging the other dogs as he kept to himself. A few dogs eventually came up to him and surrounded him while sniffing his body. He was tense with concerned eyes but tolerated their presence. A male terrier enticed him for play, pawing at his side any playfully jumping on him. He showed no interest nor offered any corrections for the contact. He resumed exploring and kept to himself for a long time. He kept his distance from playful dogs and would change direction when they were near him. He was enticed once more for play by the terrier. The terrier came up and playfully lingered near his face. He gave one air snap, appropriately warning him for space. He kept to himself after that encounter. He would briefly stop next to the handlers and allow them to rub his head and back in passing but did not seek them out. He needs further socialization and trust building.
