A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen, but he remained fearfully frozen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by two dogs and exchanged soft greetings with them both. He offered a play bow to a male Pitbull, and they engaged in gentle/dainty play. After their play, he began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. After exploring the yard, he began to playfully bound around and continued to exchange soft greetings with the other dogs. He remained playful and social for the rest of his time in the yard. He would not approach the handlers in the yard and kept his distance. Whiskey is social with the other dogs and prefers a gentle/dainty play style. After play group, he did begin to approach one of the handlers to take treats from their hand, but he would then back off to create space and was wary of being touched. See handling assessment for further stipulations.
