A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' She required a go-slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs and tolerated them both sniffing her, but she was timid. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard and explore. She was wary of dogs trailing her and would turn around to face them. After a short time, she appeared to relax more and began to exchange soft greetings with the calm dogs. She remained wary of the higher energy dogs or dogs trying to become playful. She would become tense with hackles raised and spin around to constantly remained facing them. She did not approach the handlers in the yard and kept her distance. She would do best with a calm dog that will respect her space and boundaries. Due to an incident in the previous home, she will be designated as no small animals required and rescue only. She will also require a known history of aggression disclosure form. See handling assessment for further evaluation.
