Dexter

Dexter is an adoptable male Belgian Shepherd Malinois looking for a home at Riverside County Animal Services-Riverside in Jurupa Valley, California. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Dexter, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

STAFF OBSERVATIONS 09/27/26 12:14 Dog was observed alarm barking at passer-bys in front of shelter while waiting for intake. Upon approach, dog barked at handler, but after a few minutes, slowly approached handler and sniffed. Handler was able to take leash from RP. Dog turned and snapped when trying to remove harness. Handler required assistance from second person to safely put dog in rolly cart. 10/02/26 16:51 Dog was out for enrichment with kennel mate due to no assessment. Dog was loose and wiggly upon approach, was easy to leash and walk to yard, social with kennel mate and handler. 10/03/26 10:04 Dog was taken out for media. Dog greeted the handler at the front of the kennel, loose body and soft tail wag. The dog walked well on a leash, did not pull. Once in play yard dog explored yard and occasionally checked in with handler. Easily leashed up and re-kenneled with no issue. Currently kenneled with 1 other dog. 10/07/26 Dog entered yard with confidence, took and gave appropriate greetings, took appropriate corrections when given, playful in group. 10/16/26 13:52 Dog participated in play group style today. Dog was conflict driven when small scrimmage broke out in playgroup. 10/23/26 Dog participated in small playgroup with kennel mate. 10/27/26 11:44 Dog appears to be declining in shelter environment. Dog is alarm barking and height seeking throughout observation. No kennel mate at this time.
