A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. She was wary and began trembling as she entered the catch pen and noticed the other dogs. She continued trembling as she watched the dogs in the yard while the runner clasped the collar around her neck without issue. She does not walk on leash and was carried into the play yard. Once in, she tucked her tail and sat down, tolerating several dogs coming up to greet her. A handler kneeled next to her, and she scooted next to him to seek affection and reassurance. She briefly sat behind him as she tried using him as a barrier from the other dogs. She calmly explored the yard for a few minutes and appeared to relax. Her tail was no longer tucked, and she had soft eyes while greeting several dogs. She would retreat to the handlers for reassurance when she was enticed for play as she was not comfortable with energetic dogs. She eventually walked over to a handler and laid down behind him in a corner. She continued tolerating calm dogs coming up to greet her but would turn her head to avoid playful dogs. She did give an appropriate growl and air snap warning to a female cattle dog who came up quickly and enticed her for play. She would benefit from further socialization and leash training. She had a history of attacking chickens in the previous home. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, CALM DOGS (REQ), LOW ENERGY NO POULTRY WITH KNOWN HISTORY OF AGGRESSION DISCLOSURE
