Storm is an adoptable male American Bulldog looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Storm, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Memo 10/29/2026 10/29/26 12:29 Canine has shown increasing over-arousal and is becoming difficult to manage safely while in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is required by close of business 11/3/26 to allow for behavioral support and assessment in a different setting. May be at risk for euthanasia 11/4/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 10/29/2026 Updating color due to NHO status. 10/24/2026 Responded to Animal Care calling for assistance, dog was loose behind gate between A & B, had chewed through staff's leash. When handlers arrived dog was panting heavily with wiggly body and wagging tail, handler was able to place leash, dog began chewing leash, second handler placed a second leash, quickly walked dog to kennel, once returned dog pulled leashes out of hands, began chewing and frantically shaking leashes. Handlers grabbed toys, used toys to distract while removing first leash, dog was observed quickly mouthing hand but handler didn't feel any pressure, dog lied down on bed and continued chewing through second leash, able to call dog outside, closed divider, second handler removed leash pieces from kennel. 10/24/2026 Hanging kennel sign after orange card; dog ran up to fence, jumped up while panting and wide-eyed, biting towards handler's fingers through gate. 10/24/2026 Somewhat hard to pull from kennel due to beeing jumpy and too exited. Handler was moving this dog from builing I to building B. When we were half way there, almost in front of main double door in fron of yards, Dog started to chew on leash, handler tried to redirect with treats, dog showed no interest. When we got in front of door of building B dog broke the leash, handler was able to open the gates between the back side of buildings A & B and called for support while the dog was contained, 10/20/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, Moderate to pull from kennel, Played with toys, Fetch toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Appeared interested when walking past kennels, Sit, high energy as soon as he enters yard, runs around, runs between my legs and stands there for petting, chases tennis ball, brings back and drops or holds loosely allowing me to take and throw. leans his body in for petting, sniffs at kennels but then cont to walk. fun dog, 10/11/2026 Was reported that dog ate with canned food mixed. Will be adding \"add wet food\" sign to kennel sleeve. 10/10/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Takes treats nicely, Calm, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Sit, Playful boy - even with his cone! He loves playing with the tennis balls and eating treats 10/9/2026 Dog did not eat canned/Dry kibble will add in treats today t 2nd feed. 10/3/2026 Dog did not eat kibble howver did eat canned food. Will add wet food sign today and mix in 2tbs canned food to feedings. 10/2/2026 Dog did not eat previous day food will add in treat at 2nd feed. 10/1/2026 When leashing, k9 would try to shove out of kennel. Took a few attempts to get slip lead on due to k9's eagerness to get out. Once leashed, k9 pulled. Ignored other dogs when walking past their kennels. Solicited attention, allowed all handling. Coaxed new e-collar on with treats. Pulled back to kennel, easily rekenneled and unleashed by hand. 10/1/2026 Storm has very puppy like behavior and likes to play with toys/ropes. He know “sit” and takes treats gently. Occasionally jumped up on handler but easily redirected. His body remained soft and wiggly during entire interaction. 9/27/2026 Soft, wiggly, seeking attention. Placing PURPLE level based on kennel presence and intake notes. *Dog should not be introduced to any other pets until end of 14-day decompression period. Potential adopters should be counseled on proper dog introductions, which must be slow and supervised.
