Caramel

Caramel is an adoptable female Chihuahua looking for a home at Dallas Animal Services in Dallas, Texas. She is senior and small in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to medical. Adopting Caramel, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Caramel is a female dog with multiple significant orthopedic injuries, including a right hind limb (RH) that is fixed in extension with suspected nerve damage, as well as multiple pelvic fractures. Due to the severity of the limb injury and suspected loss of function, amputation of the affected limb will likely be necessary. Additionally, her multiple pelvic fractures will require extensive orthopedic surgical intervention to address the injuries and improve her mobility and quality of life. Without appropriate surgical treatment and pain management, Caramel is at risk for ongoing pain, impaired mobility, and additional complications. The specialized orthopedic procedures, surgical intervention, and extensive postoperative recovery support she requires exceed what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite her condition, Caramel remains resilient and is doing her best while receiving supportive care. Caramel needs a safe, compassionate placement where she can receive immediate orthopedic evaluation, surgical amputation of her affected hind limb, extensive pelvic repair, and appropriate postoperative pain management and rehabilitation to support her recovery.
