Duke

Duke is an adoptable male Siberian Husky looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Duke, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Meet scared Duke ID #A2103143 Age: 5 years Sex: Male Breed: Siberian Husky Mix Color: Tricolor Weight: 57.6 lbs Intake Date: 10/28/26 (Owner Euthanasia Request) Brought to BARC by his owner as a euthanasia request, this frightened boy is completely overwhelmed by the shelter environment. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES * Heartworm NEGATIVE! * Normal medical exam; body condition 5/9. * Received routine vaccinations, deworming, and parasite prevention. * Was uncomfortable having his legs touched. ⸻ BEHAVIOR NOTES Duke is extremely fearful and overwhelmed. * 10/28: Had to be carried from his owner's vehicle, onto the scale, and into his kennel because he refused to walk. * 10/29: Trembling, showing whale eyes, and lying flat on the kennel floor. Would not walk on leash. His kennel was clean, and staff offered treats while allowing him time to decompress. * 10/30: Hid at the back of his kennel with his head against the wall, avoiding eye contact. Lay down when leashed and thrashed when muzzled, requiring staff to carry him to another kennel. Duke's behavior reflects significant fear and distress. He needs a patient person who can give him space, gentle handling, and time to build trust.
