A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Estela was fearful of the runner, and retreated to the back of the kennel with a trembling body. The runner stood calmly near the front of the kennel, and Estela slowly approached the front of the kennel. She tried to dart out of the kennel when the door was opened, but the runner was able to slip the leash over her head as she walked out. She pulled moderately on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar. In the catch pen, her body was neutral, and her eyes were concerned. She entered the yard, and exchanged gentle greetings with the other dogs. She roamed the yard with a quiet demeanor, but did not interact with the other dogs. She stayed close to the handlers, but flinched when they tried to pet her. Estela is tolerant of the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time. TOLERANT NON REACTIVE FEARFUL/FROZEN ADULTS ONLY (REC) CALM DOGS (REC) LOW CONTINUED SOCIALIZATION 12/09/2025 Eval Type: Training: Kids: Large Dogs: Small Dogs: Energy Level:Ken Handling: Reactive: Play Style: Sociability: Animal ID: Review Date: Eval Date: Eval Location: Eval Comments: E25-090338 HANDLING BALDWIN PARK A5739280 ?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. Estela was already in the yard when the handler decided to perform a handling assessment due to Estela?s nervous demeanor. She was moved to the side yard, and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. She was wary of the handler, but allowed the handler to approach her. She stood next to the handler with a neutral body, lowered head, concerned eyes, and a closed mouth. She allowed the handler to pet her whole body with no issues. She was uncomfortable when over-handled, but remained easy to handle while maintaining a quiet demeanor. When the assessment was over, she wandered away to explore the yard.
