A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Carolina was at the front of the kennel with a slightly tense body, a lowered posture, soft eyes, ears back, a closed mouth, and a tucked tail. She sniffed the runner?s hand, and allowed the runner to pet her face. She was wary of the leash, but the runner was able to leash her with no issues. She was fearful of the environment, but walked nicely by the runner?s side. She was easy to collar. In the catch pen, her body was neutral, her eyes were wide and concerned, her mouth was closed, and her tail was low. She entered the yard, and greeted the other dogs with a timid demeanor. She kept to herself, briefly roaming the yard with a tucked tail. After a few minutes, she laid down in the corner of the yard with a neutral body, soft eyes, a closed mouth, ears back, and a tucked tail. She did not engage in play with the other dogs, but was able to coexist in a small group of calm dogs. Carolina is tolerant of the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
