A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Principe A5787984 (Altered) wiggled his body excitedly upon the runner's arrival. He was easily leashed and exited the kennel on his own. Principe proceeded to lead the way to the catch pen with a moderate pull on the leash, bypassing his neighboring kennels. Once inside the catch pen, the runner applied firm leash control to keep him still as he excitedly paced while seeing the dogs. Principe was then allowed into the yard, where he exchanged greetings with the other dogs, exhibiting a relaxed posture during the interactions. Following the introduction, he followed them around the yard while he continued to sniff them. Principe also approached handlers, jumping on them playfully as he solicited petting. Principe responded with an appropriate correction when one of the dogs attempted to mount him. For the remainder of the session, Principe coexisted peacefully, roaming with his friends without showing interest in engaging in direct play with them. Once the session concluded, he was returned to his kennel without incident. Principe could benefit from continued socialization in a yard with calm dogs, where he can interact at his own comfort level and gradually develop his social skills.
