Dolliver

Dolliver is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Hillsborough County Animal Services in Tampa, Florida. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Dolliver, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

--- 19-AUG-26 - Euthanasia - 08/19/26 14:04 Dolliver is a 3-year-old neutered American staff mix. Dolliver arrived at the shelter in March of 2026. During his stay, he has allowed handling at the shelter from volunteers and staff. He is known to pull on the leash, often trying to redirect back to the kennels with other dogs. Dolliver seems to have more interest in treats than toys but will sit for treats and seeks affection from the handler during interactions. From what has been observed at the shelter, Dolliver is considered selective with other dogs due to being too much around other dogs, barrier reactive, and has potential stimulus control issues. Dolliver struggles in the shelter environment with stress, anxiety, and fear exhibited by jumping, spinning and barking every time a dog passes his kennels. He has also started to pace when he sees the staff walking by his kennel. Dolliver was moved to different kennels to try and help with his reactivity, but his behavior persists and are continuing to increase. PRC is not have the proper environment for Dolliver and he will continue to decline if he remains in the shelter environment. If there is no commitment by 8/26/26, humane euthanasia is authorized. --- 19-AUG-26 - Final - 08/19/26 13:55 ** Final plea COB 8/26/26. He sits for treats and seeks affection from the handler. Dolliver struggles in the shelter environment suffering from stress and anxiety. Dolliver jumps, spins and barks every time a dog passes his kennels. PRC does not have the proper environment for Dolliver. If there is no commitment by deadline, humane euthanasia will be authorized. --- 19-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/13/26 14:35 when approaching dog was jumping on gate and spinning before staff opened gate when leashing dog would try and leash bite on and off. After leashing staff took dog to back parking lot where dog had ears and tail up the entire time and had a hard pull throughout even when harness wrapped. Staff had no issues returning dog to kennel --- 19-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/19/26 10:17 When approaching kennel dog started to spin in place due to overstimulation when leashing dog did leash bite but was re direct onto a treat. After leashing dog came out and had a hard pull to back parking lot where dog was harness wrapped. In back parking lot Doliver pulled the entire time with ears up and tail neutral. Doliver pulled towards cats multiple times throughout the walk. No issues returning to kennel. LM --- 19-AUG-26 - Observed - 08/13/26 14:40 staff walked past Doliver with dog multiple times and each time Doliver was jumping side to side while barking when dogs were passing and would spin around due to overstimulation. And when only staff passed dog was hard starring with ears up tail up. LM --- 19-AUG-26 - Observed - 08/19/26 10:23 Staff has obsevered the same behaviors as seen on 08/13/26 (Doliver would jump and spin around barking in kennel every time a dog would walk by as well as standing at kennel door throughout the day with ears up) Doliver has also started to pace around in kennel going in and out whenever he sees staff ect. LM --- 19-AUG-26 - Rescue - Final Deadline August 26th 5pm (Not Foster or Pawdition Eligible! Rescue or Adoption Only with Wellness Consult!). MR --- 14-AUG-26 - Behavior - 08/13/26 16:30 Dolliver began jumping at the door when reaching in to leash and mouthing the leash so he was leashed quickly from up high. He pulled towards neighbors on both sides when exiting then walked with a very heavy pull forward, veering towards the kennels. He was easily harness wrapped but continued to pull heavily. In the yard, Dolliver sat in front of CR for petting and treats. He was not interested in toys but got in the pool. When seeing a dog walked about 50 ft away, Dolliver watched at the fence then began pacing and whining when the dog went out of view. Another dog was walked by along the other side of a visual barrier and Dolliver followed along, whining with loose posture and behaved the same when the dog came into view. Dolliver was returned with a harness wrap and walked with less pull. He fence fought his neighbor and had to be pulled into his kennel then was easily unleashed. -CR --- 13-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/13/26 15:56 Dolliver was at the kennel door with a wiggly body. He was easy to leash and had a hard pull. In the play yard, Dolliver sniffed around. Dolliver approached when called and hopped on staff's lap for pets. Dolliver allowed petting all over but was a little mouthy. There were no issues returning to the kennel. - NS --- 11-AUG-26 - Observed - 08/06/26 12:00 Dolliver was rapidly spinning, barking, and knocking his water bucket around when passing the kennel with a dog. Once the dog was put away, Dolliver stood alert at the door watching CR. -CR No change. 8/10 PM. 8/11 AM. -CR --- 07-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/06/26 14:14 Per Volunteer: Dolliver came to the gate wagging his tail. He jumped and bit the leash, but dropping a treat got him down and leash, and he went to the yard with a strong pull. He immediately began sniffing around the yard, checking out all of the toys. He then came over for a few pets and sniffed at my treat pocket. He sat for a treat but took it clumsily so it was better to drop it or toss it for him. He chased treat pieces that were tossed for him for the rest of the play time, sometimes taking a break to wade into the pool and cool off. He accepted pets while standing in the pool. When play time was over, he was easy to leash using harness wrap, and went back to his kennel with a strong pull. He went into his kennel without issues. - CL --- 05-AUG-26 - Observed - 08/05/26 14:28-Noted high levels of reactivity (barking, growling) while jumping up on the cage door when citizens were walking by the kennel. He began to wall surf when attempting to work with dog next to his. Seemed calm when staff was next to his kennel but became reactive when citizens walked by. MS --- 29-JUL-26 - Behavior - 7/27/26 Dolliver was standing calmly when approached at the kennel. When leashing, he began jumping and mouthing so he was leashed from up high to prevent him making contact with CRs hand. Dolliver walked with a heavy pull and little interest in dogs in kennels. In the yard, Dolliver had loose posture with both staff and solicited some petting. He quickly became overstimulated and mouthy with interaction. Dolliver focused on CRs treat pouch and started biting on it but would let go momentarily with verbal redirection. Dolliver sat for treats and took them gently. He got in the pool. When a dog was brought in two yards over, Dolliver became fixated and was barking and running the fence. He was difficult to distract and stayed focused on the other dog for the remainder of the time out so he was returned. Dolliver walked back with similar behavior and was easy to unleash. -CR --- 23-JUL-26 - Interact - 07/23/26 15:09 When approaching dog was staring at staff with ears up and when unlocking gate dog started to jump up and down. When leashing dog started to leash bite due to being overstimulated which staff re directed dog onto treat. Dog had decent pull to play yard in play yard dog ran in a circle for about a minute before cruising around allowed staff to pet him and chased after toys with wiggly body posture. After that staff took dog out to back parking lot where dog didnt react to much but did pull towards a cat with ears and tail up and whined when walking away from cat. No issues returning to kennel. LM --- 23-JUL-26 - Observed - 07/23/26 15:54 Doliver usual sits by kennel door with ears up and mouth open whenever staff passes. Staff then walked past Doliver with another dog in which Doliver watched the dog go by with ears and tail up for the first time dog walked by but the second time Doliver started to bark and jump side to side.
