Tex is an adoptable male Shepherd looking for a home at San Antonio Animal Care Services in San Antonio, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Tex, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
08/14/2026 Dog is laying down on opposite side of kennel upon approach with a tense and trembling body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. As I enter kennel, he turns to face me with the tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a low wagging tail where he is interested in treats offered to him on ground. He comes closer for continued treats offered on ground which he takes with same body language. He is not interested in coming any closer for continued treats and stays in position on opposite side of kennel with a tense and trembling body, wide eyes, pinned and a tucked tail. Upon re-approach on same side of kennel, he is sitting at barrier with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. He displays sociability with me by greeting me with a loose body and a wagging tail. He retreats and pancakes on ground as I present leash with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. He is easy to leash where he rushes out of kennel and freezes in walk way with a tense body, wide eyes pinned ears and a tucked tail as dogs bark nearby. He is prompted out of kennel where he rushes to end of leash and pauses repeatedly. He is easy to pick up and carry outside. He retreats away from me with a tense body, wide eyes and a tucked tail after being set down. He displays sociability with other handlers by allowing them to greet him and offer affection with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. He displays sociability with dogs at barrier by greeting with a tense body, pinned ears and a low tail. As I approach him to return to kennel, he retreats away from me with a tense body, wide eyes and a tucked tail. He pancakes with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail and is easy to leash where he rushes to the end of leash. He is prompted to walk out of yard where he walks on lend of leash back to building with a tense body, wide eyes and a tucked tail. He is easy to carry back to kennel. 08/17/2026 Dog displays sociability by approaching me at the barrier with wide eyes, tucked ears, tense body, and a low tail. As my hand is presented at the barrier, he sniffs and licks it with a wagging tail. He backs away with tucked ears as I open the kennel door. He then approaches me with a wagging tail and is easy to leash. He freezes in the isle with a tucked tail and is not interested in walking further. He walks back inside his kennel and leans into me seemingly for affection. 08/20/2026 Cohouse interaction. Dog displays sociability with both male and female dog in yard by greeting appropriately and coexisting with a loose body and wagging tail. He was selected to cohouse with Cash A822073. Vet Exam Notes: 08/13/2026 Patient presented from ACO truck BAR. compulsory pacing then sits then paces again. No defects along the long bones. Eating very little wet food. BCS 3/9.
