Domo is an adoptable male Bullmastiff looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Domo, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Memo 8/25/2026 08/25/26 12:42 Canine has demonstrated low tolerance for handling and other concerning behaviors during their time in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 8/30/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 8/31/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 8/5/2026 08/05/26 13:45 BJacques A5169546 A5169550 Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/24/2026 Dog was lying in back half of kennel, would not come to front half with verbal coaxing or with treats. Slowly closed divider then approached back half of kennel. Dog would be lying next to kennel door while trembling body with whale eyes & ears pinned back. Offered treats, would look away from handler. Slowly draped leash onto dog. Would not walk out of kennel with treats or verbal coaxing. Repositioned behavior taxi to be closer to kennel, dog would walk right into behavior taxi. Rode well to PY while looking around with ears pinned back & panting heavy. Would sit up in behavior taxi, looking around surroundings, handler would verbally coax dog to exit. Would slowly exit out of behavior taxi, urinated & defecated then quickly turned body to enter back into behavior taxi. Would sit up & looked around PY while being whale eyed, yawning, ears pinned back & licking lips. Each time handler would start to walk closer to behavior taxi, dog would start to tremble body while making a chuffing sound & looking away from handler to avoid eye contact. Handler would slowly extend hand to pet dog, dog would tense body more while lowering & shifting head to the side. After about 5 more minutes, dog would still not exit out of behavior taxi with treats or verbal coaxing. Rode back to kennel while trembling body. Exited back into kennel without issues. Sat @ kennel divider wall, unable to coax forward. Slowly removed leash with use of pre-attached clip leash. 8/22/2026 Assisted with shifting dog for AM cleaning. Dog was outside lying in the middle of kennel, wouldn't approach with verbal coaxing or treats, began trembling, averted gaze, able to reach in and place leash, slowly entered taxi without assistance. Dog was hesitant to exit taxi, handler tipped taxi more, dog entered kennel, came forward, head low, calm, loosened slip lead with clip leash and removed lead by hand. 8/21/2026 Dog was laying in back of kennel; resting head on floor; closed divider; pulled from back; tossed treats; sniffed; did not eat; remained laying down; furrowed brow; ears back; easily able to place leash over head; dog picked head up; secured leash; would not exit kennel; behavior taxi was placed right at front of kennel; would not walk; allowed handler to muzzle wrap; picked up; placed in taxi; rode well; tail tucked; light trembling. In yard, dog slowly exited taxi after a few moments; slowly sniffed nearby; urinated; handler sat in bench; dog stood near handler; furrowed brow; ears back; tail tucked; stood in place for several moments. Dog started to explore; defecated; walked over to opposite end of yard; remained on opposite end for entire time; after a few moments handler slowly started to approach; crouched; verbally coaxed; dog became flighty; moved away; darted past handler to other end of yard; handler again tried approach; dog moved away; walked to end of yard; pancaked; handler went to retrieve behavior taxi; handler was able to place taxi right in front of dog; picked leash up; dog tried pulling away; handler adjusted taxi; picked up from lower end; dog entered taxi; rode well; tense; tail tucked. At kennel, handler tilted taxi; dog would not exit; gave dog several moments; handler lightly brushed lower end; dog entered; handler went to slowly remove leash; dog started growling; did not fully pull leash off. 8/20/2026 Domo would not respond to treats or to being leashed. He would not stand or leave kennel for walk. Dog was lying flat on ground and was avoidant of contact. Ears were drawn back but there was no growling or whale eye. 8/9/2026 Alarm barking at front of kennel on approach, some tense body but settles when baby talked, some flagged tail. No issues separating from kennel mate. Once separated dog became timid, trembling in back legs, froze to back of kennel, not interested in treats offered. Allowed handler to approach and place leash with no issues, doesn't walk on leash, allowed handler to pet and carry into taxi with no issues. Rode fine to small play yard, observant and accepted pets on head. Once in yard took a few moments for dog to exit taxi, very timid with tail tucked, exited slowly and began exploring near handler, warmed up to handler quickly with more soft body and wagging tail accepting pets. Easily startled and started to whine when near fence but will return to handler for pets, not interested in treats. Picked up leash and dog froze in place, would not walk on leash, started to walk towards taxi allowing handler to pick up and carry into taxi with no issues. Rode fine back to kennel, exited taxi into kennel and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 8/8/2026 Separated from kennel mate on approach. Alarm barking; tossed treats; ate some; retreated to back corner; facing divider; came forward briefly; retreated; tried lasso leashing; would turn head away; able to lasso leash after a few attempts; dog slowly came forward; trembling; stood at front of kennel; placed taxi right at front of kennel; would not exit kennel; tried treats; not interested; slightly pulled back; handler slowly stepped into kennel; used bed as sort board; dog halfway entered taxi; handler was able to easily muzzle wrap; lifted lower end into taxi; rode well to yard; ears back; wide eyed. Entering yard assistant handler was waiting with kennel mate; tipped taxi over; dog briefly remained in taxi; then noticed kennel mate; became soft wiggly; tail wagging; kennel mate approached handlers; dog would also approach; allowing all petting; followed kennel mate around in yard; would briefly explore with out kennel mate. As dogs were exploring this dog mounted kennel mate easily able to redirect with verbal correction. Dog stood in pool; handler approached; offered treat; not interested; jumped out; ran to kennel mate; explore; handler verbally coaxed; dog approached; soft; tail wagging; allowing petting; if handler was petting kennel mate dog would nudge handler; allowing for more petting. Picked leash up; dog froze; noticed kennel mate walking; dog followed kennel mate back to kennel; stop and go; would continue to follow kennel mate. Returned to same side due to AM cleaning; kennel mate entered kennel first; dog followed; allowed assistant handler to remove leash. 8/7/2026 Tense body, pupils dilated, alarm barking, retreated outside, came forward again when verbally coaxed, remained tense with stiff wagging tail, retreated again.
