Sinclair is an adoptable female Lancashire Heeler looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/3/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 8/23/2026 How long have you had the animal ? 3 DAYS. SOURCE SAW PET WANDERING AT A GAS STATION. RETURNED TO AREA A LITTLE WHILE LATER. PET WAS STILL THERE. PET ROLLED OVER ON BACK AND ALLOWED SOURCE TO APPROACH. PET ALLOWED SOURCE TO PICKUP AND PUT IN CAR. What are the cross streets where you found the animal? 83RD AVE AND THOMAS RD Is this animal currently showing any signs of illness, taking any medication, or has the animal been diagnosed with a medical or behavioral condition? NO. Is animal spayed/neutered? UNK. Has the animal shown any signs of aggression toward people or animals? NO TOWARDS PEOPLE. YES TOWARDS DOGS. Has the animal ever seriously injured or caused the death of another animal? NO. Was this animal around any children? NO. Did the animal interact with other animals? Cats? SOURCE HAS 3 CATS. SOURCE WAS KEEPING PET SEPARATED FROM CATS BY A GATE. THIS PET LUNGED, GROWLED AND BARKED AT CATS THROUGH GATE. PET PUSHED THROUGH THE GATE TO TRY AND GET TO CATS. Dogs? SOURCE HAS 3 LARGE DOGS. WHEN SOURCE INTIALLY BROUGHT PET HOME, SOURCE INTRODUCED THIS PET TO ALL 3 LARGE DOGS ALL ON LEASHED OUTSIDE OF HOME. THAT INITIAL MEETING WENT WELL. THEN SOURCE ALLOWED PETS TO FREE ROAM TOGETHER, PLAYING TOGETHER AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. PETS WERE PLAYING AS USUAL, THIS PET SUDDENLY STIFFENED AND STARTED TO BITE ONE OF THE DOGS. THIS PET BIT ON LEG AND THEN BIT DOWN ON NECK. SOURCE HAD DIFFICULTY SEPARATING DOGS. SOURCE TRIED TO HIT THIS DOG, YELL AT THIS DOG AND FINALLY THROUGH A BLANKET OVER DOGS. ONCE BLANKET WAS THROWN OVER DOGS, SOURCE WAS ABLE TO GET THEM SEPARATED. SOURCE STATED THAT THEIR DOG SUSTAINED SEVERAL PUNCTURE WOUNDS BUT SOURCE DID NOT TAKE PET TO VETERINARIAN. AFTER THAT INCIDENT, PETS WERE KEPT SEPARATED BY KENNEL OR GATE. AT ONE POINT, THIS PET JUMPED OVER GATE AND BIT DOWN ON ANOTHER OF SOURCE'S DOGS NECKS. SOURCE WAS ABLE TO GET PETS SEPARATED. SOURCE STATED NO INJURIES TO THAT PET. Livestock (horses, cows, goats, chickens, etc.)? NO. Other Animals (birds, small mammals, reptiles, etc.)? NO. Any Additional details/notes on behavior? PET IS ROUTINELY SUBMISSIVE TO PEOPLE AND WILL ROLL OVER ON BACK. PET HAS BEEN FRIENDLY AND LOVING WITH SOURCE. BARKS WHEN DOORBELL RINGS. PET LOVES TO PLAY FETCH. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/28/2026 Closed out for AM cleaning. Standing at front of kennel; took treats gently; paced at front; soft; tail wagging; presented leash; dog would dodge leash placements; would come forward; expose stomach; tail wagging; tried placing leash; moved away; handler used large loop; stepped a foot in; able to place leash over; exited; moderate pull. In yard, dog explored for a few moments; approached handler; allowed for all petting; soft; tail wagging; leaning into petting; demonstrated sit; took treat gently; explored; approached when verbally coaxed; sought attention; allowed for all petting; would follow handler; turn on back; soft; tail wagging; continued to allow for petting. Walked well back to kennel; did not enter kennel; pancaked right in front of kennel; tossed treats; dog followed treats; entered kennel; allowed handler to remove leash. 08/28/26 15:41 Updating requirements. 8/27/2026 Outside for AM cleaning pacing in back of kennel with tucked tail, eyes wide, very timid. Did come forward for treats offered but hesitant to approach, ate treats tossed near. Retreated to corner of kennel when leash was presented, wary of leash placement, some attempts to dash passed handler when attempting to lasso, pacing in back of kennel, will hide in divider pocket but startled when approaching to leash and backs up into corner. When handler lowered leash and knelt down while baby talking dog became soft bodied, wagging tail, lowered head and ears and came forward to expose belly allowing pets, would get up to retreat quickly when leash was presented but repeated this a few times before allowing handler to place leash at front of kennel as dog was being submissive. Once leash was secured dog exited kennel erratically, settled and had loose tail wag and soft body to small play yard, startled by reactive dogs in passing, some zig zag walking pattern otherwise no issues guiding to yard. In yard dog would have soft wiggly body, became submissive towards handler whenever approached with wagging tail, soft body, accepted pets all over, some shake offs while exploring, neutral soft bodied and wagging tail. Not interested in treats offered or tossed near, would stay close to handler soliciting attentions whenever handler knelt down. Placed front paws onto bench near handler and accepted pets all over. Came to handler when called over to leave, easy return to kennel, walked into kennel on own and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 8/27/2026 Verbally coaxed dog inside, k9 army crawled to handlers, handlers entered kennel with k9, k9 rolled on back for belly rubs, able to shave k9 for spay check with no restraint. No issues exiting kennel. K9 seeked attention from both handlers. 8/26/2026 Dog was closed to front half of kennel. Offered treats, would start to alarm bark while pinning ears back & being whale eyed. Continued to kennel flirt with dog, dog would slowly start to come forward with tail wagging in between legs, keeping head lowered. Ate treats @ kennel door. Would quickly retreat after treats were gone. Scattered treats in middle of leash while leash was on ground, dog would eat treats then quickly retreat. When lifting leash up, dog would growl while curling lips, retreating to kennel divider each time. Would no longer come forward. Handler would cast a large loop leash towards dog, dog would push upwards with hind legs against wall then would slide down on drain cover. Handler would remove leash & offer more treats. Dog would not come forward. Would continue to push upwards on wall with hind legs & slide down. Handler would end attempt to leash due to FAS. Left a jackpot amount of treats in food dish. 8/23/2026 Nervous, tail tucked, wide eyed, pacing room in triage looking for escape route, thrashing slightly on leash, heavily panting, side eyeing, skin crawling when petting, ears pinned back and side eying when attempting to muzzle wrap, whipped head at handlers hand, walked to kennel, walked in zig zag motion, used clip lead to remove leash.
