Gary

Gary is an adoptable male Black and Tan Coonhound looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Gary, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 26, 2026. I am in kennel DA18. Weight: 35.6 lbs Intake date: 8/26/2026 Status: RESCUE ONLY ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Gary has an abnormality involving his right testicle. Veterinary examination on 8/27 documented the right testicle as approximately twice the size of the left, although it was normal in shape and nonpainful when examined. Possible causes include an abscess or neoplasia, and the veterinarian recommends neutering with possible histopathology of the right testicle for further evaluation. Gary is Heartworm NEGATIVE and has received DA2PP, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines, deworming, Pyrantel and Advantage Multi. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Gary is a frightened little guy who is struggling with the shelter environment. He has been found trembling at the back of his kennel with whale eyes and a tucked tail. But with gentle baby talk and treats, Gary slowly got up, approached staff and followed them outside. He accepted treats and allowed himself to be leashed. On another walk, Gary walked to the runs on a loose leash. He remains fearful and has even semi-army crawled when overwhelmed, but he's trying despite how scared he feels.
