About Jameson

Jameson is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Jameson, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Jameson ACCT-A-258268 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Jameson must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, September 6th 2026 at 10AM. Should Jameson's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Jameson is a sweet, lovable big baby who is ready to find his forever family! This handsome boy may take a little time to warm up, but treats are the way to his heart, and once he gets comfortable, his gentle personality really shines. He has been described as incredibly sweet and well-mannered with people, and staff even called him a 'big baby at heart.' He allows handling and enjoys spending time with his people, especially when there aren't a bunch of distractions around. Jameson is also a dog enthusiast! He gets very excited when he sees other dogs and would love nothing more than to say hello to every pup he passes. He can become quite focused on them and pull toward them, so his new family should be prepared to help him learn some polite leash skills and give him plenty of guidance around canine distractions. Once away from the excitement, he is much more relaxed and able to focus on his handler. Jameson has had some successful dog interactions, but because he can become very focused and intense around other dogs, his adopter will need to be committed to slow, thoughtful dog introductions and be willing to give him time to get comfortable with a potential canine sibling. He shouldn't be rushed into interactions or expected to immediately become best friends with another dog. A patient adopter who understands the importance of gradual introductions will set Jameson up for success. Jameson is treat motivated, eager to explore, and a really good walker when he's able to focus. He would do best with a family who is comfortable continuing to work on his leash manners and helping him learn that he doesn't have to meet every dog he sees. Because he can be a little jumpy and enthusiastic about treats, we recommend a home with children 8+. If you're looking for a handsome, goofy companion with a big personality, a sweet heart, and plenty of potential, Jameson would love to meet you! Videos: Sadie lady and Jameson: Jameson & Boogie: Behavior Notes: Walksheet notes: 8/11 - low energy, a little scared but warms up with treats 8/12 - low energy, playgroup 8/13 - low energy, very sweet, likes to explore more than pets 8/13 - high energy, snatchy with treats outside, pulls strongly towards other dogs, allowed all handling 8/16 - no issues 8/16 - medium energy, good dog meet, pulls on leash, gets lightly jumpy, snatchy with treats, pulls towards other dogs 8/16 - medium energy 8/19 - medium energy, good boy 8.21 - medium energy, very interested in other dogs, walks so nice, sweet 8/21 - fixated on other dogs 8/23 - medium energy, fence fighting with other dogs, wants to meet every dog, good boy 8/23 - medium energy, good boy, pulls a little, very gentle 8/24 - medium energy 8/26 - medium energy, good boy 8/28 - medium energy, so sweet, good walker, crazy to meet other dogs 8/31 - medium energy, so good, my fav! Per volunteer 8/21/26: Was laying right in front of the door when I approached his kennel and he immediately got up when he heard me there. I very easily looped the leash out of his head and his body position was a little tense with a mid-level wagging tail and ears perked straight up. On leash he pulls moderately and would recommend a harness. When we got to the play yard, there was another dog in the play yard a few yards down and he was pretty fixated on him for a while, pacing at the fence. He remained focused on the dogs around us for the whole outing. He is much more calm when he's not in the presence of any dogs and able to focus on his handler much more! He takes treats gently for the most part with a little snatchiness one time and very treat motivated. He took some pets from me, however didn't solicit out too much attention overall. Minimal pulling on the way back into the shelter. Easily went back into kennel Per staff 8/17/26 (Regarding meet with Sadie Lady): Forward. Pulls hard. After he sniffed Sadie he was pulling less towards and able to be redirect. Per staff 8/15/26 (Regarding meet with Boogie): Pulled hard towards him, hard staring, able to sniff. Hard to redirect when closer, needed leash pressure to move away. Per staff 8/15/26: kids 8+ due to being snatchy with treats and jumping Per staff 8/13/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel with his front paws on the door with soft eyes, ears back, loose body. Took a treat through the bars. Leash Skills: Tossed treats into his kennel to get him to move back, when he came back to the front was able to leash. Once leashed came right out and pulled moderately on leash. Once outside pulled strongly towards other dogs. Sociability: Allowed all handling with a loose body, ears back, mid level tail wags. Remained next to me when I stopped. Took treats snatchy outside, tossing them is best! Would jump on me for them as well, with ears back, mid to low tail wags. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Boogie, pulled hard towards him hard staring, ears forward, tenser body. Face to face pulled strongly, was able to sniff him. Hard to redirect, would continue to pull hard and hard stare at him until about 20ft away. Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling moderately with the same body language as walking out. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed by hand. Color Level: Blue Playgroup 8/12/26: Steer Test - was not able to get steer test due to being sent back. Fence greeting - came up tense and muzzle punched with hard barking. Did not get into playgroup. Per staff 8/10/26: he was very easy to handle , gave vaccines with no problem . he is a big baby at heart so sweet Per finder 8/10/26: Jameson was found 3 weeks prior and was brought to the shelter to find a new owner. His finder notes that he appears to need attention, is well mannered with strangers and other animals, and is overall friendly ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
