Chalupa
Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 2 Days Left
Scheduled: September 6, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Chalupa is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Chalupa, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Chalupa ACCT-A-258368 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Chalupa must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, September 6th 2026 at 10AM. Should Chalupa's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Chalupa is a handsome brindle boy with a huge heart and an even bigger love for his people! This sweet young guy may be a little shy when first meeting someone, but once he realizes he's safe, his affectionate personality comes shining through. Give him a few minutes to warm up and you'll quickly discover what a special boy he is. Chalupa is a serious cuddle bug who loves being close to his humans. He'll happily hop up beside you, lean his whole body into you for pets, or even curl up in your lap for some quality snuggle time. He enjoys getting attention and is wonderfully gentle when taking treats. He's also a playful guy who enjoys toys and will happily chase after a thrown toy before deciding whether or not it's worth bringing back! Outside, Chalupa loves to explore with his nose and enjoys spending time in the yard. He can get excited when he spots other dogs and may pull toward them, but he has had several positive dog interactions and has shown that he can enjoy canine company. He's also been doing well on his walks and is easy to get back into his kennel. Chalupa has so much love to give and would be thrilled to find a family with kids 10+ who will give him the chance to settle in, build his confidence, and show them what a lovable, goofy, cuddly little guy he is. If you're looking for a sweet companion who will happily trade his shelter bed for a spot next to you on the couch, come meet Chalupa! He was drooling a lot. When he saw me, he ran over and was panting. Flagged to behavior team and they will give him some extra enrichment. Per staff 8/31: Chalupa was wiggly and easy to leash in kennel. He pulled moderately through the kennels and outside. He'd pull stronger when he saw a dog, and would spring forward to the end of his leash when excited. In the yard, he enjoyed pets a lot. When I picked up a toy, he sprung into the air, all fours of the ground. He did this a few times and was very excited. He ran to it when I threw it, then lost interest (only wants what he can't have lol). When I asked him to sit for a toy, he leaned back (didn't fully sit) and waited patiently with all fours on the floor until I threw it. He was easy to return to kennel. He wouldn't take treats but sniffed them. Per staff 8/29 (Regarding meet with Pepper): Stiff greetings, sniffed and pushy play Per volunteer 8/22: \"This handsome brindle boy was easily one of my favorites of the day, and it took about five minutes with him to understand just how special he is. When I first met Chalupa, he was sitting SO cutely on his little bed in his kennel. He let me leash him up with absolutely no issues, and once we were outside, he walked so nicely on leash like the good boy he is. But the best part about Chalupa?! He is an absolute CUDDLE BUG. This boy just wants to be close to you. He hopped right up on the bench next to me, and when he wasn't leaning his whole body into me for pets, he was literally lying across my lap soaking up all the love. He takes treats incredibly gently, loves affection, and is just such an easy, sweet, lovable boy to spend time with. And can we PLEASE talk about that brindle coat?! Handsome doesn't even begin to cover it. Chalupa is the kind of dog who makes you want to sit there with him all afternoon. He has so much love to give and is just waiting for someone he can give it all to.\" Per staff 8/15: Easy to leash, neutral body language in kennel. Pulls hard outside, exit searching in the pen. Sniffed the other dog, licked genitals, otherwise wanted to go into the far corners of the yard and look at the parking lot and the street. Handled him on his back, neck and head with gentle reassuring touch, which is solicited more of when I stopped. Per staff 8/13: Best suited for a home with kids 10+ Per staff 8/13: Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed when I approached kennel. sat up on the bed with soft eyes and ears to the side. Leash Skills: Easy to leash to and came right out of kennel. Mildly pulled on leash. Pulled hard towards the fence line and the parking lot (exit searching). Sociability: Tolerant of handling however did not solicit for more. Took treats gently, preferred meatballs over hot dogs. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Sammi, pulled towards her. Overly interested in sammi's hind end. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Playgroup 8/12: Steer Test - Water 4/5, Can 1/5 Allowed to be sniffed but moved around in yard a lot on own. Exit Searching. Per staff 8/11: A little nervous, backs away when you move towards him. I had to go slow and bend down to his level and he started to come close to me, looked like he felt a lot more comfortable. Let me gently pet his head Per finder 8/11: The police found a dog tied to a pole and brought him to ACCT.
