Blue

Blue is an adoptable male Cane Corso Mastiff looking for a home at NYC ACC-Staten Island in Staten Island, New York. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Blue, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Blue was initially highly fearful of exiting his kennel, growling at staff and making himself small. He began to improve & is now exiting without issue. However, he is highly anxious when out and attempting to flee back to kennel. He will remain by the gate when in the yard, or pull back towards the care center. Medically, he is underweight, has a heart murmur and has experienced some lameness in the left front leg. Blue is a large, lovable dog who was initially very fearful when he entered care. After a few days, he began to warm up to select staff and showed that, once he feels comfortable, he can form meaningful bonds with his people. Despite his size and long legs, Blue seems to think he is a lap dog and enjoys being close to those he trusts. Blue briefly lived in a home with children and was described as shy, often hiding at first while he adjusted to his surroundings. More recently, Blue has become highly anxious while in care and is currently not comfortable or happy during socialization or walks. His behavior in the care center may be influenced by the stress of the environment, and he would benefit greatly from a calm, patient home where he can decompress and feel secure. Placement out of the care center as soon as possible is strongly recommended so Blue can begin to relax and show more of his personality. He will need an understanding adopter who is willing to give him time, patience, and space as he builds confidence and learns to trust.
