Boomer

Boomer is an adoptable male Bullmastiff looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Boomer, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Memo 9/3/2026 09/03/26 11:30 Canine is demonstrating withdrawn behavior and minimal response to interaction. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/9/26 to allow for observation and support in a more suitable environment. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/10/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/30/2026 Dog would quickly retreat to back half of kennel with a tightly tucked tail on approach, slowly closed kennel divider. Approached back half of kennel, dog would be in corner of kennel near divider wall, trembling body while whale eyes & ears pinned back. Would not come forward for treats or verbal coaxing. Slowly leashed dog, dog would slowly approach behavior taxi with verbal coaxing. Rode to small PY while lying down curled in behavior taxi, trembling body. Exited out & into small PY. Would quickly retreat to corner of PY, laid down while trembling body. Would not approach handler, was not interested in treats. Would have intense skin crawling when handler would slowly pet dog on head & side of body while keeping head lowered, avoiding eye contact & making a crying sound. Would not move from corner. After a few more minutes, handler would reposition behavior taxi use a lot of verbal coaxing with slight leash pressure to coax dog to walk back into behavior taxi. Would defecate while riding back to kennel, curled on bottom while trembling body. Entered back into kennel quickly & removed leash with use of pre-attached clip leash while dog would be curled in back corner of kennel, trembling body, keeping head lowered & looking towards corner walls. 8/29/2026 Dog was lying outside against divider wall, side eyed handler, wouldn't come forward with treats or verbal coaxing, closed divider, met dog outside. Dog remained frozen in corner, averted gaze, ignored high value treats, wouldn't approach with verbal coaxing, shifted weight back and lowered head as handler reached in to place leash. Unable to coax out of kennel, handler positioned taxi directly in front of dog, slowly entered taxi without assistance, attempted to jump out on the way to yard, used leash pressure to hold dog in taxi. Once in yard dog slowly emerged from taxi, posture low, tail tucked, lied down in corner of yard, panting, lip licking, stared at handler, wouldn't approach with verbal coaxing, still not interested in high value treats. After a moment handler approached and sat on bench next to dog, dog shifted weight back, whale eyed, lip licking, salivating, head shy but allowed light petting, remained frozen in corner. Handler brought over taxi, able to guide into taxi with moderate leash pressure, no issues riding back to kennel, dog scurried to back of kennel and pancaked, used clip leash. 8/28/2026 Requesting full evaluation based on intake and previous observation note. 8/27/2026 Observered a large amount of vomit in the back of the kennel; canine was frozen in back of kennel; avoided eye contact when handler approached kennel; QAR; attempted to leash canine for morning cleaning; canine would not move, remained at back of kennel; canine attempted to crouch closer to ground and move to the corner; canine ended up moving to oppostite side of kennel on own; appears to have high FAS. 8/26/2026 does not walk on leash, allows all handling and petting, light restraint for vaccines, shut down, timid, tail tucking, used pet taxi to transport to kennel Name: Boomer Animal ID: A5170578 Breed: TAN/WHITE AM PIT BULL TER Sex: Male Age: 2Y 1M Weight: 68.6 lbs Kennel: West Kennel, Wing G - 223 Intake Date: 8/26/2026 Deadline Date: 9/9/2026
