Khloe is an adoptable female Bullmastiff looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Khloe, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Memo 9/4/2026 09/04/26 14:18 Canine has demonstrated low tolerance for handling and other concerning behaviors during their time in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/10/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/11/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/5/2026 Soft face and body, wagging tail, approached front of kennel when called by name, sniffed hand through gate. 9/4/2026 Closed in for AM cleaning. Dog was standing in back corner of kennel; verbally coaxed; tossed treats; dog came forward; soft; tail wagging; not interested in treats; easy leash; exited; stop & go to sniff; continued walking with light leash pressure. In yard, as handler was setting leash down; leash lightly brushed dog; dog skin crawled; lip licked; explored; sniffing nose to ground; tense body; handler verbally coaxed; offered treats; approached quickly; took treats gently; offered more treats while attempting pet; dog would stop eating treats; pulled head back; handler tossed treats onto ground; handler tried petting middle body; skin crawled; dog spit treats out; turned head back; side eyeing; stopped petting; went back to eating treats. Dog continued to explore; defecated; noticed dog in nearby building; became stiff; tail flagged; watched dog for a moment; went back to exploring; started salivating. Handler picked leash up; dog followed handler; added clip leash; tolerated light petting on head; walked back stop & go to sniff; entered building; dog became stiff; tail flagged; walked past kennel; handler used leash pressure; redirected dog into kennel; dog entered; removed leash with clip leash. 9/3/2026 Closed inside, lying on bed, calm, ears pinned, eyes soft, slowly came forward to take treats, low wagging tail, head shy but allowed leash placement, slow walk to yard, stop and go at times but continued walking with verbal coaxing. Explored yard, nose to ground, neutral, eventually approached handler with verbal coaxing, ears pinned, salivating, stoic, allowed pets on head, no longer interested in treats. Lied down in front of handler, panting, scanning surroundings, skin crawled every time handler pet, turned head to look at handler with ears pinned. Able to pick up leash, followed handler out of yard with low wagging tail, no issues walking back to kennel, easy return, able to reach in and remove leash by hand. 9/2/2026 Timid, laying in middle of kennel with tense body, little eye contact with handler, no interest in coaxing or treats.
