This assessment should be considered a snapshot in time that will require updating as new information or behaviors emerge. It should not be relied upon to predict future behavior or as a statement of overall temperament. For additional information about an animal's behavior, please contact the animal care center. EVALUATION DATE: 2026-09-22 UPDATED THE LEGEND: ADULTS ONLY (REQ) i SMALL DOG SOCIAL \"OVERALL SCORE\": NEEDS ASSESSMENT i ENERGY LEVEL: MEDIUM i TRAINING RECOMMENDATION: CONTINUED SOCIALIZATION i EVALUATION COMMENTS: 'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Bruce greeted the handler with a relaxed body and a friendly demeanor. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, and walked nicely on leash. The handler walked him for a while so he could relieve himself before returning to a quiet area of the clinic. He allowed the handler to pet his head, neck, back, sides, and abdomen with no issues. The handler was able to check his ears and teeth. He did not want his tail or rear end touched, possibly due to still being painful from surgery. He would turn his body so he could keep his eyes on the handler. He allowed the handler to touch his back legs, but whipped his head toward the handler and growled when she touched his front legs. The handler was able to block him, and he immediately relaxed when the handler stopped touching his paw. He was returned to his kennel with no issues.
