Jeff A5795698 (Intact) gave the runner an alert bark upon arrival as he stood at the front of the kennel with a neutral posture. He was slowly leashed as he initially flinched when the leash made contact. Once leashed, Jeff exited the kennel on his own and proceeded to lead the way to the catch pen with a strong pull, bypassing his neighboring kennels. Once inside the catch pen, he allowed himself to be collared and leashed without issue before he was allowed into the yard. Jeff first exchanged greetings with some of the other dogs, exhibiting a neutral body posture during the interaction before moving on to explore the environment. He appeared comfortable around the other dogs, sniffing them as he met them while continuing to roam the yard. A scuffle occurred after he crossed paths with an assertive dog. The other dog lunged offensively but they were quickly steered away with a correction tool. This caused Jeff to become shut down, as he stood next to the exit, seeking to leave for the remainder of the session. Once the session concluded, he was separated from the group to begin the handling assessment. Jeff could benefit from confidence-building training and continued interaction in a yard setting with calm dogs, as this may allow him to interact at his own comfort level and gradually develop his social skills. He stood still and unbothered as the handler examined his ears, mouth, abdomen, tail, and legs. Jeff displayed a neutral posture, a low tail, a neutral gaze, a natural ear set, and an anxious pant while he observed the exit. Once the session concluded, he was returned to his kennel without incident. Jeff showed no concerning behavior during the assessment; however, slow introductions are recommended as this may allow him to warm up to people.
