Spot is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Spot, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

URGENT PICKUP NEEDED BY 09/14/26 Intake Info: Spot A2227057 is a 2-year-old dog who was found in a crate with another dog on a sidewalk. Medical: 9/11 Update: Spot was fully processed, and is heartworm negative. He is currently receiving treatment for kennel cough and is on FAS medication. Behavior Notes: Spot is a very fearful and timid dog who will benefit from slow, gentle handling and time to build trust with people. When first approached, he was lying on his bed and raising a paw. With repeated treat offerings, Spot gradually became comfortable taking treats from the handler's hand. He was able to be loop-leashed and taken for a short walk. During the walk, Spot became overwhelmed when he saw staff members in the parking lot, stopping and eventually gator-rolling and pulling away from the leash. He was returned to the patio, where he was given time to become familiar with additional staff. Spot stayed near the handler and later allowed gentle petting on his head and back. He also placed his paws on the handler's lap and leaned into them. Spot did not actively seek affection from everyone, but he showed encouraging signs of connection with the handler he had begun to trust. He was able to walk calmly by their side and sit between their legs at the benches. Spot will benefit from a quiet environment, slow introductions, and a 'less is more' approach. He may do best with handlers who allow him to approach at his own pace and avoid overwhelming him with too much interaction. Staff Notes: Spot is very scared and has difficulty trusting unfamiliar people. He may give a hard stare, stiffen, and become uncomfortable when people are behind him. During an attempted processing, he was nervous and repeatedly looked back while walking out of his kennel. He became more relaxed in the clinic, with some stress yawning, panting, and intermittent tail wagging. Spot reacted fearfully to the muzzle. When presented with it, he immediately stiffened, closed his mouth, and whale-eyed. After several attempts, he continued to display the same fearful response, and processing was unable to be completed. Staff were unable to safely place hands on him for examination or petting during the attempt. He would approach to sniff but would then walk away. Spot appeared more approachable and was wagging his tail when returned to his kennel. Request to Rescues: Spot is a very fearful dog who has not yet been able to be fully processed and he is also currently being treated for kennel cough, which has caused further delays in his processing. After a couple of days in our shelter, Spot is not thriving in this environment and needs the opportunity to decompress and build trust in a quieter setting with a patient rescue.
