About Roscoe

Roscoe is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to other. Adopting Roscoe, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake Info: Roscoe (A2339802) was picked up as a stray in Lake Worth. He was scanned for a microchip and, luckily, one was found; however, we were unable to make successful contact with his owner. Medical: Roscoe is heartworm positive and fully processed. At the time of his neuter, histology from masses removed from his flank and scrotal area confirmed cutaneous mast cell tumors (MCTs), Grade II/low grade. Both masses had 2'3 mm margins with no vascular invasion identified. The prognosis for survival is good, although continued monitoring is recommended. Approximately 20% of dogs with low-grade MCTs may develop new mast cell tumors, so any new masses will need prompt evaluation and removal if indicated. Roscoe also has hair thinning throughout his body. Staff Notes: Roscoe appears to be housebroken. He enjoys being petted and is an incredibly sweet boy. Volunteer Notes: Roscoe is a sweetheart! He is playful and takes treats very gently. Behavior Notes: Roscoe is steerable with the spray bottle. He entered the yard with Melody and Jacey and initially sniffed around before approaching both dogs for friendly greetings. He attempted to mount both dogs, and limited play was observed. Roscoe engaged in brief push/pull play with Woofles and socialized with Loki, Woofles, and Sookie. He can be pushy with his play attempts, but staff were able to redirect him when needed. Staff Notes: Roscoe is an extremely sweet boy who loves neck scratches and kisses. Request to Rescues: Roscoe is in urgent need of rescue due to his heartworm-positive status and history of mast cell tumors. He needs a rescue able to provide his heartworm treatment, continue monthly microfilarial control, and ensure close monitoring for any recurrence or new mast cell tumors. At 7 years old, Roscoe deserves a safe and nurturing home where he can receive the medical care, security, and love he needs. He is affectionate, playful, gentle with treats, and has shown that he can socialize with other dogs. We would love to see this sweet boy get the second chance he deserves.
