Intake Info: Doc (A2009476) was owner surrendered to our officers who responded to a call regarding a matter of keeping. He was surrendered along with a couple of other dogs. Medical: Doc is a 10-year-old boy who is heartworm positive and currently being treated for kennel cough. He is cryptorchid and has high FAS around medical restraint. He is fully processed and classified as HS-4. Behavior Notes: Doc was trying to hide under his bed when approached in his kennel. Staff were able to loop-leash him and take him for a walk. He allowed pets on his back and butt, while head pets needed to be done softly and slowly. He was very steerable with the spray bottle. Doc came into the yard with Melinda. He greeted her and attempted to hump her. Melinda corrected him, and he stopped momentarily. Staff Notes: Doc is handleable but very nervous. Volunteer Notes: Doc was shy and moved to the other side of his kennel when approached. The volunteer stepped out and waited until he came closer. After closing the guillotine, they entered slowly while speaking to him in a soft voice. Doc made himself smaller in the corner and sniffed the treats offered but did not take them. The volunteer was able to slowly loop-leash him. He walked closer and began sniffing them, allowing them to take him outside. In the yard, Doc initially stayed in the catch pan watching while his two 'sisters' were bathed. Once let into the yard, he walked around and sniffed the area. Doc enjoyed a self-care day! He allowed the bather to put a collar on him, brush his fur, and begin introducing him to the water hose. Doc initially tried to move away from the water but eventually allowed the bather to bathe him, including touching his full body and cleaning his eyes. During the bath, he remained still and eventually lay down. He had no issues returning to his kennel afterward. Request to Rescues: Doc (A2009476) is in need of urgent rescue placement. He will need sterilization once recovered from kennel cough, as well as begin his heartworm treatment. Due to his nervous behavior and discomfort within the shelter environment, Doc needs a calm environment, patient handling, and time to decompress so he can recover and be a happy boy.
