A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on swroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\" He was very fearfully defensive in the kennel, lunging and biting at the leash. Once leashed, he beganto scream, flail and bite at the leash. He was able to be transported to the play yard in a rolling cage. He required a very go-slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen. He was wary, head shy, had whale eyes and licking his lips during collaring. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by two dogs and tolerated them both sniffing him, bưt he was tense. After the dogs broke away, he began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. After some time, he appeared to relax more and began to exchange soft greetings with other dogs. He also spent a lot of time peacefully laying down at the edge of the yard. He would also allow other dogs to approach and sniff him while he lay there. He also allowed a female Poter to come and lay next to him. He remamed calm and social for the rest of his time in the yard, but he still appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs. There were dogs playing dunng his time in the vard. but he did not engage in or entice any play. He was wary of the handlers in the vard and kept his distance. Bullet is social with the other dogs, but he displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog. See handling assessment for further stipulations. The handler knelt and called to him, but he did not approach. The handler slowly approached him and picked up his leash. The handler knelt again and began to verbally coax him and reassure him. He had wide eyes and began to lip curl and low growl. The handler backed away and stood up to give him space. The handler that removed him from his kennel and collared him, then attempted to interact with him instead and attempted to remove the play group collar. He backed himself into the comer, growling and lip curling, with his eyes tracking their hand. The assessment was ended at this point. He appears very under socialized around people, is not leash trained and becomes very defensive, along with having issues being handled. He also tried to bite the owner that tumed him in when they were removing him from his crate. Due to all these factors, he will be designated as rescue only at this time.
