Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/20/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/21/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 9/4/2026 How long have you had the animal? 6 HOURS. SOURCE STATED AN EMPLOYEE FOUND THE DOGS WANDERING IN A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. SOURCE TOLD THEM THAT THEY COULD TAKE THE DOGS TO A SHELTER FOR THEM. SKITTISH AND GROWL AT STRANGERS 9/4/2026 These dogs were found and brought in together A5171145 A5171144 Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/10/2026 Dog was standing in middle of kennel; tossed treat; sniffed; came forward; took treat gently through kennel; opened kennel door; slow tail wags; offered more treats; slowly reached for treats; tried leashing; avoided leash placement; tense; whale eyed; leashed; dog froze; offered treats; took a few steps forward; placed blanket over; picked up; carried to play yard; tense. In yard, placed dog on floor; froze; remained in place for a few moments; handler sat in chair nearby; tried verbally coaxing; offered treats; not interested; whale eyed; dog slowly started to approach handler; tried to slowly pet; pulled head away; side eyeing; went under handler's chair; tried coaxing out of chair; not interested; slowly pet; skin crawled; turned head back; lip licked; ears back; dog remained under chair for entire time. Handler slowly removed chair; dog cowered away; picked leash up; tried moving away; placed blanket over; dog tried walking away; easily able to pick up in blanket wrap; carried back to kennel; slowly removed leash; shook head; placed in kennel. 9/9/2026 Dog approached handler when offered treats, low posture, tail wagging, took treats from hand. Dog became tense when presented with leash, avoidant, tried using treats to distract but dog was too focused on leash, after a few attempts able to place leash with large loop, dog was standing at the back of kennel, came forward when offered more treats, tense and side eyed when lightly pet, able to slowly pick dog up with towel, carried to small play yard with no issues. Dog was trembling on lap, eyes wide, scanning surroundings. Handler placed dog on ground, dog stood in between handler's feet, flinched when touched but settled and allowed petting all over, no longer interested in treats. Dog retreated under chair, remained frozen as handler walked around yard, would not leave chair with verbal coaxing. Handler approached and picked up leash, slowly lifted chair, dog started to retreat as handler attempted to pet again, ears pinned, whale eyed, able to place towel on dog and slowly pick up, carried back to kennel, removed leash and returned with no issues. 9/5/2026 Dog didn't eat dry food.
