Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/23/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/24/26 or sooner if warranted. BASELINE RD AND KYRENE RD Is this animal currently showing any signs of illness, taking any medication, or has the animal been diagnosed with a medical or behavioral condition? NO Is animal spayed/neutered? NO Has the animal bitten anyone? If yes, please explain? NO Any near bites (contact but did not break skin)? If yes, please explain? Has the animal shown any signs of aggression toward people or animals? HAS BARKED DUE TO BEING SCARED TAIL IS TUCKED WHEN BARKING. Any Additional details/notes on behavior? FOOD MOTIVATED, WAS CALM WITH FEMALE. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/17/2026 Dog was at front of kennel, tense, ears back, low tail, wide eyes, shifting uneasily as handler approached, flinched as they dropped treats but came forward to eat, took treats through door, startling at the sound of the door when his muzzle made contact. Handler opened door, held leash at front, dog came forward, lowered head, sniffing leash, backed away, handler tried to lure through with treats, dog would not come through, handler dropped treats and tried to drape leash over head, dog flinched and backed away when it touched him, handler attempted again, was able to place leash as dog ate, exited kennel, was still tense with ears back and darting eyes, alert. Mild pull to yard, stopped to urinate, followed handler into yard, sniffing ground, remained alert, handler called to dog and dog slowly approached, stood with his head resting on their leg and took treats with a low soft wagging tail. Dog allowed all petting, looking around yard with furrowed brow, softened expression with treats, soft gaze at handler. Dog wandered away, slowly moving around yard, had awkward gait trying to avoid stepping on leash, occasionally held back leg off ground. Handler grabbed a stuffed toy, dog looked towards them as they squeaked it, tossed it in front of dog, dog leaned forward and sniffed it but did not engage further, slowly moving around yard, low tail, ears back, standing in one place and looking around with furrowed brow, handler would approach, dog watching with whale eye, lip lick, handler tossed treats, dog would take a hesitant step forward, leaning to get treats, stayed mostly in place, handler sat down and called to dog, dog slowly came up, stopping a few feet short of handler, handler tossed more treats, walked to catch pen and opened door, dog stood still, watching, wide eyes, handler returned to bench and sat down in front of dog, gave a few more treats, soft tail wag, handler able to pick up leash and dog slowly exited yard, mild pull back to kennel, startling backwards away from building door as they entered, walked into kennel easily and allowed leash removal by hand. 9/15/2026 Handler approached kennel front; Dog was timid; startled easily; retreats back and fourth between guillotine; Handler spoke softly and dog would come forward and sniff towards handlers hand; ears pinned back; unsure; timid stare; Handler went to back and called to dog; Dropped in treats ; dog came over and ate treats; Handler closed guillotine; Dogs ears pinned back; surveying kennel; began to jump up onto walls; handler spoke softly unlocked door and held leash in opening; dog came forward; allowed rest of leash to be placed over head; walked out with caution; mild pull; ignored dogs and handlers in passing; Walked to yard; hesitant on entering catch pin; Followed handler in; handler held onto leash until bench; added drag line and coaxed dog over; dog came over slow approach; handler gave light petting along back; Dog allowed; handler continued to pet and let go of leash; dog walked yard exploring; sniffed around yard; urinating in multiple spots; Handler would coax dog over and dog would approach; more relaxed body; tail wagging; leaned into petting; sought out comfort from handler; interested in squeaky toy; still timid of surroundings; ate treats scattered; calm demeanor; didn't jump on handler at all; low energy in yard; ears pinned down; soft stare at handler; stayed in handler vicinity remainder of evaluation; Handler walked over to exit; dog followed; allowed leash grab and adjustment; clipped on clip leash; walked with mild to loose leash pull back; walked right up to kennel entered; used clip leash for removal; handler believes could of removed by hand; opened guillotine and gave treats; 9/10/2026 Finder walked k9 into intake room, once in room dog immediately began pulling on leash and looking for ways to escape, defecated all over room, tail tucked extremely fearful, climbing all over room. K9 did not settle in room, constantly looking for ways to escape. K9 did allowed petting and solicited attention from handlers, but became very fearful of leash pressure and would attempt to roll and pull away. Used bucket to get to the kennel, clip lead to unleash. Attempted to jump out of kennel so k9 was relocated to a jumper kennel.
