Windor

Windor is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is fully grown and large in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Windor, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake Info: Windor A2339935 was found running near a busy road, wearing a harness with a rope trailing behind her. The source who found her reported that she was being aggressive, but Windor was actually cooperative and took treats from our staff member, during her intake. Medical: Windor appears to be approximately 7 years old. She is heartworm negative. She appears to have a left facial nerve paralysis and ataxia, with a possible mild right head tilt. On 9/18 she appeared more mentally inappropriate and had an episode where she ran into a wall, raising concern for decreased vision. Her ears did not appear to have a significant infection externally, although an otoscopic exam was not performed today. Her appetite has decreased and has progressed to anorexia. CBC/Superchem completed. Volunteer Notes: Windor is extremely strong on leash and would benefit from being walked with a harness while she works on becoming more comfortable and steady with leash walking. She is also very housebroken. Behavior Notes: Windor can be very active and strong on leash and has shown a strong response to certain steering tools. During her assessment, she was muzzled for safety after attempting to bite a jug when it was used as a steering tool. During her interaction with another dog, she approached with a raised tail and stiff body, continued approaching when the other dog moved away, and later mounted him and vocalized when he responded. Outside of these interactions, Windor has also shown a much softer side. Staff were able to take her out of her kennel using treats and a loop leash. She knows sit and paw, and she quickly followed a treat trail back to her kennel. When interacting with staff, her eyes were soft and her body was loose. She accepted pets and leaned into affection. She also displays a submissive/appeasement smile at times. She moves quickly through the kennel when other dogs are barking but can be redirected with treats. Request to Rescues: Windor is in urgent need of rescue due to her ongoing neurologic concerns and poor appetite. She needs continued monitoring, further medical evaluation, eye care related to her facial nerve paralysis, and supportive care for her appetite. Although she is currently stable, she would benefit from a quieter environment where she can receive the extra medical care and support she needs.
