Papa

Papa is an adoptable male Chihuahua looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is fully grown and small in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Papa, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

More Info: I have been at the shelter since Sep 18, 2026. I am in kennel DB26. ID #A2033603 3-year-old Male Chihuahua Shorthair Mix | Tan 20 lbs Intake date: 9/18/26 Status: Rescue only 💔 Papa Bear came into BARC with several other dogs. Old Man was rescued on 9/23! Red #A2033601 and Little Man #A2033602 are still at BARC. Cream #A2033600 is no longer at BARC, but his status is unknown. Now Papa Bear needs his own rescue to step forward. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Papa Bear developed loose stool and was given Panacur on 9/23. He has also received deworming treatments and preventatives. He is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE and has received rabies, DA2PP and Bordetella vaccinations. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Papa Bear is extremely frightened in the shelter. Staff have found him trembling in the back corner of his kennel with a tense body, worried expression and his tail pressed against him. When frightened on leash, he has thrashed, stopped walking and rolled, requiring staff to carry him. On 9/21, he was again found trembling in the back of his kennel and was carried to his new kennel after being leashed. This little dog desperately needs a quiet, patient place where he can decompress and begin to feel safe.
