A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, traming, medical, socialization, and life expenences. She was wary with concemed eyes but tolerated the runner clasping the collar around her neck. She did not greet any dogs through the fence and kept back. She timidly entered the yard with a low head and tucked tail. She tolerated a young, female shepherd coming up to greet her, tuming her head away to avoid a direct nose-to-nose greeting. She took a step back, stretching her body to sniff the shepherd's body in retum. She also tolerated her enticing her for play and pawing at her side without reacting. She bnefly explored the yard calmly and came up to a handler. She froze as he reached his hand towards her. She stretched to sniff his hand and then allowed him to rub her head and chin. She appeared to relax slightly and pressed her muzzle into his hand. As time passed, she continued relaxing and began approaching the other dogs, exchanging calm greetings. She wanted to go back up to the handler for more affection but each time he kneeled near her, playful dogs would come up, and she would not approach with them nearby. She was enticed a few other times for play by other dogs but declined each attempt. She eventually became comfortable with the play dogs near her and even tolerated them pawing and climbing on her side to entice play. She needs socialization and confidence building She also needs a go-slow approach to build trust. She relaxed as the handler rubbed her head and back. She then sat next to the handler, leaning her body against his leg. She was comfortable and was relaxed with soft eyes and an open mouth pant as the handler looked in her ears, viewed her teeth and held her front paws. She slowly sat down, closing her mouth with concemed eyes each time the handler touched her rear paws and tail. She resumed seeking affection as the handling assessment was concluded.
