Kane

Kane is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Kane, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

ID #A2094150 2 years old ' Neutered Male German Shepherd Mix ' Black/White Weight: 56 lbs intake date: 9/2/26 💔 Kane came to BARC as an eviction confiscate. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Kane is heartworm negative. On 9/18, Kane developed nasal discharge, congestion and coughing and was diagnosed with CIRD/URI. He was prescribed doxycycline 250 mg once daily for 10 days. ⸻ 🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES: Kane was initially extremely scared, trembling with a tucked tail and worried eyes. But gentle baby talk helps him relax, and despite his fear, staff have repeatedly been able to leash him without difficulty. He consistently walks on a loose leash, takes treats and has shown wonderful progress. After spending time outside, staff have even seen his frightened body transform into a wiggly body with a high-wagging tail. By 9/24, Kane was waiting at the front of his kennel with a neutral body. Although he still flinches when startled, he walked nicely, accepted petting, relaxed with his handler and returned to his kennel for treats. He was also quiet throughout the morning.
