Rocky

Rocky is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Rocky, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Rocky. I am a neutered male, tan and white American Staffordshire Terrier mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 9 months old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Sep 13, 2026. I am in kennel SOUTHD35. ID #A1994055 1 year 9 months ' Neutered Male American Staffordshire Mix ' Tan/White Weight: 48 lbs intake date: 9/13/26 💔 Rocky was adopted as a tiny puppy in March 2025. More than a year later, he was returned to BARC on 9/13/26 as a euthanasia request. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Rocky is heartworm negative. On 9/19, he developed diarrhea and was diagnosed with whipworms. He was prescribed Panacur 11 mL once daily for 3 days, with repeat courses planned. On 9/24, Rocky developed green nasal discharge and sneezing consistent with CIRD/URI. He was moved to treatment and prescribed doxycycline 200 mg once daily for 10 days. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Rocky appears frightened and overwhelmed by being back in the shelter. Early notes describe a tense body, tucked tail and fearful posture, but he continues to allow staff to leash and walk him. Importantly, Rocky has gradually begun opening up. Staff have seen him approach with a wagging tail, accept petting, walk more comfortably on the return from outside and even roll over to show his belly. More recent notes describe him greeting staff with a neutral body, soft or worried eyes and a low wagging tail, while allowing himself to be leashed and taken outside easily.
