Francheska is an adoptable female Boxer looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - East in Mesa, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Francheska, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Memo 9/25/2026 09/25/26 13:06 Canine has demonstrated low tolerance for handling and other concerning behaviors during their time in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/30/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 10/1/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/25/2026 Dog was standing a foot or two back from front of kennel, wide eyes, tense, tucked tail, handler approached kennel door and dog backed up, whining and growling, handler tossed treats, dog did not come forward but slowly started to eat treats closest to her, stayed tense in middle of kennel, handler opened door and reached in leash, dog whined and low growled again, hard stare at handler, handler withdrew leash and tossed more treats, dog came up to front for treats, handler draped leash over head, dog backed away with tense face and body but returned for more treats and was successfully leashed on second attempt, slowly exited kennel, furrowed brow, low tail, followed handler to yard, wary of staff cleaning kennels, paused with closed mouth and ears back, then resumed following handler, giving other staff a wide berth. Once in yard handler sat on bench and began tossing treats, dog was standing frozen in middle of yard, tucked tail, wide eyes, ears back. Dog would slowly start to come closer as handler tossed treats, eventually leaning forward and taking treats out of their hand, slightly grabby. Handler slowly reached to pet side of dogs neck, dog would freeze, whale eye looking away from handler. Handler kept feeding treats and attempting to pet, dog stayed next to them for food but was wary of touch, leaning away, lowered head, consistently darting eyes away as handler pet around neck. Handler tossed treats away to give space then slowly stood up, dog flinched as they moved, handler grabbed a squeaky ball, dog pinned ears further back when it squeaked, handler tossed ball next to her and dog sniffed it, wide eyes, closed mouth, no interest, alert to environment, would turn head quickly towards sounds/movements, kept tucked tail and tense body throughout entire evaluation. Handler sat back down on bench and spent a few more minutes feeding and petting, handler tried to pet dogs side and dog instantly rounded back and turned head with whale eyes. Handler walked to catch pen, dog remained frozen in place, handler slowly walked around the dog while tossing her treats, picked up leash, walked dog into catch pen, more treats as handler added clip leash, dog was hyper vigilant on walk back, pausing again when passing by staff, followed handler to kennel and walked right in, allowed leash removal with clip leash 9/24/2026 Handler approached kennel front; Dog was pancaked to ground; timid in back; head held low; side eye; Handler closed guillotine slowly and re approached back; Dog was sat in corner and didn't come forward; Handler had to step in and place leash over head; dog would hold head a certain way making it difficult to place; Was finally able to place leash; ; Handler tried to open door fully and verbally coaxed dog forward; tried treat trailing with no luck; Handler decided to do light tug at leash and dog actually stood up and walked out with caution; tail tucked; unsure of environment; followed handler; Handler walked to yard dog followed with loose leash; sought out direction from handler; Once in catch pen handler secured leash; Did light petting along back and head; Dog turned head but allowed; Walked to dog to bench added drag line and did light petting and dropped leash; Dog walked yard; caution; tail still tucked; Timid; Unsure of environment; walked yard sniffing around; Dog engaged in treat scatter; still tail tucked and didn't grab ones near handler; Handler knelt down near dog; and picked up treats missed and hand fed to dog; dog allowed and took gently; handler pet dog gently; Dog was still timid; allowed but didn't solicit; allowed petting along head and back; If handler approached too quickly dog would nervous whine; Stoic in place; Dog did better with slow approaches while being spoken softly to; Handler allowed dog to decompress she would walk yard; timid tail tucked for remainder of time; Handler would grab leash and walk to catch pen; dog allowed adjustment and followed handler with loose leash; followed handler to kennel; ignored dogs in passing; entered back of kennel with ease; unleashed by hand; handler dropped jackpot of treats to end on positive interaction; 9/18/2026 K9 was brought into ramp with dog taxi and catch pole device, k9 allowed vaccines with catch poole device, k9 wide eyed, K9 ORANGE DUE TO BEHAVIOR Name: Francheska Animal ID: A5171829 Breed: BROWN AM PIT BULL TER/BOXER Sex: Female Age: 2Y 0M Weight: 57.8 lbs Kennel: East Kennel, Wing C - 242 Intake Date: 9/18/2026 Deadline Date: 9/30/2026
