Teeny is an adoptable female German Shepherd looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Teeny, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Memo 9/24/2026 09/24/26 14:06 Canine has demonstrated low tolerance for handling and other concerning behaviors during their time in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/29/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/30/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 9/18/2026 09/18/26 13:28 LRounds Found with A5171832 Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/23/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel on approach. Opened kennel gate, dog would retreat to kennel divider wall while being whale eyed, body & head lowered. Would not come forward with verbal coaxing or treats. Stepped into kennel, lasso looped leash placement. Would slowly walk to kennel gate, sniff behavior taxi then quickly darted out of kennel, turned body & started to thrash body, quickly settled. Handler would reposition behavior taxi & closed kennel gate. Dog would start to thrash body back towards behavior taxi. Would not walk once settled with verbal coaxing or treats. Slowly picked up dog & placed into behavior taxi. Rode to small PY while looking around surroundings with a tucked tail & ears pinned back, mouth opened, panting. Once in small PY, dog would quickly retreat out of behavior taxi & run to corner of PY. Would sit up while trembling body, keeping head lowered, whale eyed, panting heavy & avoiding eye contact. After a few minutes, handler would slowly walk diagonally towards dog, dog would start to pace along fence line. Handler sat back down on bench. Dog would stand in middle of PY while keeping tail pointed straight down, mouth wide open, panting heavy, ears pinned back & head diagonally pointed down while staring @ ground. Handler would toss treats, would not be interested in treats & would not respond to handler while speaking softly. Handler would slowly approach dog & picked up leash. Dog would remain still bodied as handler would slowly pet on side of body. Slowly picked up dog & placed back into behavior taxi without issues. Rode back to kennel while looking around surroundings, panting heavy & having a tightly tucked tail. Entered into kennel quickly & removed leash with use of pre-attached clip leash as dog would quickly retreat to kennel divider wall with pupils dilated & trembling body. 9/22/2026 On outer portion; looking in through divider; tossed treats; dog followed treats through divider; slowly closed divider; rounded body; tail tucked; dilated pupils; stood in middle of kennel; opened kennel door; attempted to lasso leash; dodged leash attempts; handler was able to lean in; used large loop; placed over head; placed behavior taxi right at front of kennel; tried coaxing; remained in back corner of kennel; handler slowly stepped in; started to pick bed up; dog scurried into behavior taxi; rode in taxi; stood on hind legs; front paws hanging over outside taxi; attempting to exit taxi; used light leash pressure to maintain dog in taxi. In yard, dog jumped out as handler was tilting taxi; stayed along yard fence; not interested in tossed treats; ears back; tail slightly tucked; dog walked over to a bench; rested head on bench; eventually placed front paws on bench; after a few moments started walking along yard fence; handler tried to slowly approach; dog froze; reached head out; sniffed handler; cowered away; moved to corner of yard; handler crouched nearby; slowly muzzle wrapped. Picked up; placed in taxi; allowed for slow petting on head; added clip leash; tried jumping out; entered kennel; removed leash with clip leash. 9/18/2026 Upon approach would sniff then backed up into corer of kennel. Once out of kennel would not walk in leash, had to go slow, able to muzzle wrao and carry to kennel.
