Betoven is an adoptable male German Shepherd looking for a home at Los Angeles County - Lancaster in Lancaster, California. He is fully grown and medium in size. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a male husky. He had concemed eyes, tuckedtail, and created space away from him. He then stood by the fence nearest to the catch pen. He was then approached by a different male husky. He retreated to the comer and then began to give show of teeth wamings and growl whine. The male husky walked away from him. A short time later, he was approached by a female shepherd. He showed teeth and then gave a hard air snap waming. She respected this and walked away. He remained by the fence for the rest of his time in the yard. He continued to showteeth and snap at any dogthat approached him. He maintained this defensive behavior for the rest of his time in the yard, regardless of the dogs' approach or energy level. He appears under socialized around other dogs. Due to this and his overly defensive behavior, he would likely do best as the only dog in the home. He would approach the handlers if they were near the fence and seek affection. At one pont, a handler walked closer to him while he was at the fence. He shifted his body weight backwards, had a tucked tal and gave a bnef lip curl. But when the handler then knelt and coaxed him, he approached and began to seek affection. See handling assessment for further stipulations. The handler knelt and called to him. He approached with soft body language and began seeking affection. He allowed the handler to pet his head, but he can be head shy at first. When the handler tried to check his teeth, he tumed his head away. He allowed the handler to check his ears with! no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail without issue. When the handler touched his back paw, he spun around and tried to bite. He was unable to do so, due to the handler having control of his leash. The handling assessment was ended at this point. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. He is very wary of faster movements and needs a go-slow approach. Due to his handling sensitivities and behaviors displayed at the care center, he will be designated as recue only at this time.
