Baguette is an adoptable male Shar Pei looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. He is still very young and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 5 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Baguette, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake 9/23/2026 2 DOGS SEEN RUNNING TOGETHER/FOUND TOGETHER A5172068 A5172058 9/22/2026 How long have you had the animal? 1 DAY, DOG WAS OUT FRONT OF A PROPERTY THE SOURCE WAS WORKING AT, THEY STATED THAT THE DOGS WOULD RUN AWAY WHEN APPROACHED BUT WARMED UP AFTER PROVIDED FOOD AND WATER. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/27/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel during AM cleaning. Would be lying down in kennel on approach, would not come forward with treats or verbal coaxing. Opened kennel door & presented leash, would do a low growl while handler would place leash onto dog. Would not stand up with coaxing. Able to pet on head while dog would make grumbling sounds with intense skin crawling. Able to pick up & place into behavior taxi. Rode well to small PY. Would not come forward with treats or verbal coaxing while exploring nose to ground. Handler would approach dog, dog would lower head while looking away from handler & tucking tail under body. Slowly extended hand to pet dog, would do intense skin crawling when being pet. Picked up leash, dog would lay back down. Slowly picked up & carried back to behavior taxi while dog would have a stiff body. Rode back to kennel with tail fully tucked under body & yawning. Once back in kennel, dog would quickly retreat to corner wall & lay down while being whale eyed & trembling body. Removed leash with use of clip leash as dog would not come back forward. 9/26/2026 Lying against kennel door, calm, stoic, slowly took treats from hand. Allowed leash placement, unable to coax out of kennel verbally or with treats, eyes were shifty, scanning surroundings. Flinched and lip licked when lightly pet, able to slowly muzzle wrap, pick up and carry to taxi, rode well to yard, sat up and observed surroundings, air scenting. Slowly exited taxi, low posture, tail partly tucked, kept distance from handler, slow movements while exploring yard, began panting, ignored hot dogs tossed nearby, wouldn't approach handler with verbal coaxing or treats, stood in corner of yard. After a moment handler approached, dog shifted weight back, side eyed and backed away when attempting to pet, sniffed treats but didn't eat. Allowed handler to slowly pick up and place in taxi, skin crawled when pet, no issues riding back to kennel, able to pick up and place in kennel, dog retreated towards divider, unable to coax forward, used clip leash. 9/22/2026 Nervous, tail tucked, furrowed brows, growling on approach, slow leash placement, allowed all handling and vaccines with muzzle wrap restraint. Pancaked, bucketed to kennel.
