Stormy is an adoptable female Bullmastiff looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 5 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Stormy, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

No interest in coaxing or treats, whale eye and quickly scanning environment as door was opened, remained in place allowing handler to slowly approach and place leash with no issues. Slowly exited kennel, easy leash pull, startled easily and flinches heavily, tail tucked. In yard dog would retreat to corner yard and freeze with tail tucked, lip licking, tense bodied, eyes wide, ears dropped back, tolerated petting on head with skin crawling. Hesitantly came to handler as time passed, would not fully approach handler, little eye contact with handler but tolerant of handler petting, scooted close to handler and rested head on handlers leg, trembling body, eyes wide, ears alert when not petted, easily startled, lip licking. No interest in treats offered. Followed handler to exit. Easy return to kennel, walked into kennel on own and pancaked to back of kennel, allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 9/27/2026 Growling on approach, backing up in kennel, presented leash and canine ducked head all the way down, would not coax forward, slow leash placement with wide loop leashing, hard stare and handler, would walk over to second handler and hard stare, wide eyed, furrowed brows, ears back, ended attempt for spay check, walked back to kennel, slowly coaxed back into kennel with slight leash pressure, clip lead used to remove leash. 9/26/2026 Dog was laying on bed; closed divider; whale eyed; furrowed brow; tossed treats onto bed; not interested; attempted to lasso leash; dog moved away from bed; walked into corner of kennel; attempted to lasso leash; dodged leash attempts; leashed; slowly came forward; exited; tense body; tail tucked; ears back; light to no pull. In yard, dog explored; remained distant from handler at first; slowly approached; sniffed handler; slowly pet lower back; skin crawled at first; remained still; stopped petting; dog continued to sniff handler all over; offered treats; not interested in treats; continued to explore; interested in staff & customers walking past; followed along yard fence; tail slightly tucked; explored near handler; reached out to pet; lip licked; tolerated petting; slowly pet on head; continued to explore. Handler was able to pick leash up; added clip leash with no issue; exited yard; walked well; entered kennel; removed leash with clip leash. 9/23/2026 Dog had tail tucked and hid behind finder when I approched. Finder assist me in loading onto truck.
