This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. This pet is available only through ACC New Hope partners. To adopt or foster, please complete the pre-screener form below. Inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Leapfrog is at risk due to behavior concerns. Leapfrog has been displaying a high level of kennel stress despite best efforts to keep him comfortable. He has been seen persistently jumping to the top of his kennel while panting heavily, occasionally slamming his head on the kennel door, and hypersalivating heavily which has covered the kennel door in saliva. During walks, Leapfrog has been observed to pull towards other dogs while vocalizing, and was noted to become tense and hover over treats while staring hard at the handler walking him. At the beginning of his stay in care, Leapfrog had escalated to higher-level warnings when staff attempted to remove him from his crate during his intake and while in the kennel. On one occasion, he began guarding treats on a walk, hard staring at the handler walking him. When trying to return him to the kennel, he would balk and growl at the handler. He has shown some sociable behaviors with familiar handlers in quiet, calmer settings when given time to warm up; leaning heavily into pets and readily accepting treats with a hard mouth. Medically, Leapfrog was recently treated for diarrhea, and has moderate dental disease. Leapfrog was surrendered into care as a stray, so his past behavior in a home environment is unknown. Leapfrog has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. He has escalated to higher-level warnings during his intake and his medical exam - growling, hard barking, baring teeth, snapping, and lunging. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
