About Judy

Judy is an adoptable female Jack Russell Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is senior and small in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to medical. Adopting Judy, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Judy ACCT-A-263895 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Judy must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Friday, October 9th 2026 at 10AM. Should Judy's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Judy is a sweet, quiet girl who may need a little time and patience to feel comfortable in a new environment. When approached in her kennel, she slowly came forward and eventually headed outside with some gentle encouragement. She can be nervous with handling and may be uncomfortable with touch, particularly around her hind end, so a patient, understanding approach will be important as she settles in. Outside, Judy prefers to take things at her own pace and was content to stay close to her handler rather than seek out treats or attention. When introduced to another dog, she chose to move away rather than engage, suggesting she may appreciate calm, respectful introductions. Judy is a senior with significant medical needs, including severe chronic skin inflammation and thickening, irritated paws, chronic ear infections, dry eye disease with corneal changes and impaired vision, fleas, mild dental disease, and a heart murmur. She may also be experiencing discomfort related to her skin. She has received initial treatment and will need continued veterinary care, medication, and a comfortable environment where she can heal and decompress. Judy is rescue-only and urgently needs a placement where she can receive the ongoing medical care and support she deserves. This senior girl needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and comfort to help her feel her best. Can your rescue step up for Judy and give her the chance at a more comfortable, loving next chapter? Videos: Judson & Turbo: Behavior Notes: Per staff 10/6/26: Kennel Presentation: Laying in her kennel when I approached, did a stretch and slowly came forward with ears to the side and a looser body. Not eating the treats I offered. Leash Skills: Dodged the leash when it touched her ears, made a large loop and was able to leash. Hesitated to come out and after a minuet with baby talk came out. Walked with tail low, tense body, ears back. Sociability: Would not come over for treats or calling. Not eating outside. Tolerated handling with ears back, tail low, tenser body. Remained next to me when I stopped. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Turbo, moved away when he tried to sniff. Return to Kennel: Walked back loose leash, stopped outside her kennel, needed light leash pressure to hop in. Tried to push back out, leash was able to be removed with hand. Color Level: Blue Per staff 10/5/26: TTA: Pt was tense, whale eyes, with hind legs trembling. Allowed petting and full exam with no issues. When pt was towel restrained around neck and touched on hind end for vaccines. Pt tried to get loose from restraint and tried to bite ACA. Pt has thickened skin on all legs and hind end, possibly in pain. Per finder 10/5/26: Friendly, shy, and quiet Medical Notes: 10/5/26: Judy is a senior stray dog with several chronic medical concerns, including severe, widespread skin inflammation and thickening, dermatitis between all four paws, chronic ear infections with thickened and crusty ear canals, and dry eye disease affecting both eyes, with corneal changes and impaired vision. She also has fleas, mild dental disease, and a Grade II heart murmur. During her examination, she fractured a nail on her left hind foot, which was easily removed. Judy was treated for fleas, ear infections, skin inflammation, and eye disease, and was prescribed medications including Optimmune eye ointment and a 21-day course of fluconazole. Due to her medical needs, Judy is rescue-only and urgently needs placement within 72 hours.
