About Mandy

Mandy is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to behavior, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Mandy may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

Mandy ACCT-A-262965 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Mandy must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11TH at 10AM. Should Mandy's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mandy came to ACCT Philly on September 25th as an owner surrender after her owner was hospitalized, along with four other dogs from the same household. Mandy is a very fearful girl who is still adjusting to the shelter environment and needs a patient, experienced home where she can feel safe and build confidence at her own pace. She has been willing to take treats gently and has allowed gentle handling, though she remains hesitant to move on leash and may need to be carried. Mandy has shown that she can relax with gentle interaction, leaning into pets with a loose body and soft eyes when she feels comfortable. She has also had appropriate, tolerant greetings with another dog, though her overall fear continues to make everyday shelter routines challenging. A quiet home, a patient approach, and a securely fenced yard would help her settle in without the added pressure of leash walks while she adjusts. Due to her fear, Mandy is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, experienced foster, or experienced adopter. VIDEOS: Mandy and Willie: Cuddly Mandy: BEHAVIOR NOTES: Per staff 10/9: Kennel Presentation: Sitting on the bed when I approached her kennel. Soft eyes, ears to the side and low tail flutters as I spoke softly to her. Leash Skills: Stayed on the bed when I opened the kennel door able to leash her while on the bed. Carried outside. Sociability: Leaned into all handling with loose body, soft eyes, ears to the side and low tail fluttering. Dog Interaction: Met Willie: Appropriate greetings. Tolerant. Handler oriented. Hackles raised with a tucked tail. Return to Kennel: Carried back inside to her kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Blue Recommendations:'Exp adopter/foster home, fenced in yard as isn't walking on leash. Per volunteer 10/8: Other volunteer did carry Mandy much of the way through the parking lot to the yard, she walked on the grass. Then with leash pressure she walked into the yard. She walked around the yard a little bit. I did a leash loop under her belly to walk her back to shelter. Per staff 10/8: Walk sheet only has limited entries, stating she has to be carried still. Per staff 10/2: This morning when I came in she was laying in the corner. Squinty eyes, ears to the side and trembling. I was able to clean around her. She sniffed my hand a few times and allowed short gentle pets. I gave her meds and breakfast she ate both while I was still in the room however still was trembling Per staff 10/1: Moved to my office, had to be carried, defecated. Highly fearful, slept most of the day. Trembling in kennel at times when I paid attention to her. Offered leash to walk, head turn away and avoided the leash: allowed to just stay in kennel. Per staff 9/30: Kennel Presentation: In the middle of the kennel when I approached. Slowly came to the front with wide/soft eyes, ears to the side and tail tucked. I offered some treats and she took them gently. Leash Skills: Closed the divider and she sat right next to it. Was able to lasso to leash. Needed leash pressure to come fully out of kennel. Frozen and would not walk even with treats. Carried all the way out side. Sociability: Asocial and frozen. Tense body, lip licking with a side eye when I attempted to pet. Was eating outside if I offered it right to her. Remained in the corner of the yard and tried hiding behind the pool. Dog Interaction: Brought Cindy into the yard. Able to get within a couple of feet of each other however no interaction at all. Return to Kennel: Had to carry back to kennel. Color Level: Behavior/management at this time Per staff 9/28: During my morning walkthrough came to the front of her kennel wide wide eyes, ears pinned back, low tail. Took a treat gently through the bars. Per staff 9/27: ACA asked for help getting Mandy out of her crate for cleaning. She was at the back of the crate and low growling at them when they attempted. When I approached she was at the back of her crate wide eyes, ears pinned back, turning her head away. Offered some hot dogs which she ate the ones that landed near her, would not come forward for the ones closer to the door. Attempted a large loop on the ground with treats, at the treats around it, would not eat the treats in it. Able to lasso her. Once on leash stopped eating and was low growling. Needed leash pressure to remove from crate and she took a few steps before stopping, tail tightly tucked, ears back, wide eyes, tense body. Would not move forward with baby talk, food or a jog, when applying leash pressure she started to buck back on the leash and defecating. When she stopped I gave her a second then had a staff member stand behind her for people pressure to get her to move to a quiet area so we could move her to a quieter kennel. They needed to use a belly loop to get her to move, whale eyes, low growling, tense body, I was able to clip my leash and we needed leash pressure to enter her kennel. Per staff 9/27: This dog is being started on behavior meds for FAS. Per staff 9/26: Laying down when I approached her kennel. Soft squinty eyes, ears to the side. Tossed treat in and she ate it. Per staff 9/25: QAR, very timid, friendly but slow approach is recommended, it is clear they have not been socialized or taken outside of the household frequently.
