A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She approached a female Pitbull and froze with a tense forward body posture, hackles raised and a high stiff curved tail. She then growled and lunged toward the female Pitbull with an open mouth. The Pitbull ran away to avoid her and olive chased her growling. When she caught up to her, she jumped on top of her and attempted to attack her. A handler nearby was able to quickly grab her leash and prevent it. The female pitbull was moved to an adjoining yard temporarily, so the handlers could further assess Olive's behavior with other dogs and ensure it wasn't just an issue with that one dog. She was approached by a male shepherd that greeted her. She froze with a tense body, hackles raised and giving side eye. The male shepherd walked away from her. As soon as he turned his back and moved away, Olive darted fast toward him with an open mouth. A handler was able to grab her leash to prevent her, and she was removed from the yard at this time. Due to her unprovoked offensive behavior displayed, she will need to be the only dog in the home.
